24 hour timer on bathroom fan

Not really, just multiple showers in a solid brick walled house. Seems common sense to me to get rid of the moisture at source. Anyway, was just about to order and realised I have an old timer from a warmup underfloor heating system. Am I correct in assuming I can just use that instead of a...

24 hour timer on bathroom fan

Ideally it would be good to have the fan run off the shower, not the light. This would be possible if you wired it to the shower isolator switch and switch it off after use, which I don't. But... Is there any way of sensing current draw from the isolating switch and using that as a trigger? In...

24 hour timer on bathroom fan

Thanks all. "The L & N supply to the timer do, of course, have to come from the same circuit as the switched live (i.e. the light)." Just pondering this, the live and neutral to the timer would have to be permanently live. If I take it off the circuit after the lightswitch, then when the light...

24 hour timer on bathroom fan

Fitted a more powerful inline fan to our ensuite, on a 20 min timer. All good, but the missus is complaining its too loud in the middle of the night and runs for too long. I want it to run for a decent time after a shower so dont want to turn the timer length down. I'm considering running...

2 way wiring - varilight dimmers

Oh well ..... I'll swap the dark and light grey over at the weekend. All seems to be working so could probably be left as is, but I'll change for correctness. Thanks

2 way wiring - varilight dimmers

I'd argue that it should be possible to replace a switch like for like without being a fully qualified electrician. Their guy told me over the phone what each translated to, and it would have been easier if it had just said this on the instructions. Hopefully this will help someone else...

2 way wiring - varilight dimmers

Thanks again. I actually got through to them on the phone and sorted earlier, but had to go pick my daughter up before I could update the thread. For the record they told me exactly the same as you, so full marks :) Slave = COM Live = L1 (assuming brown is supply live) Load = L2...

2 way wiring - varilight dimmers

Thanks for replies, only got around to looking at this again in daylight. Firstly, I'm an idiot and the wiring was different to described earlier. I had L1 and L2 the wrong way around before at the door. Should be like this: Current wiring is as follows: Switch1: COM - orange L2 -...

2 way wiring - varilight dimmers

Thanks guys, although you have confused the hell out of me :( See if this helps any - a picture and thousand words and all that: http://s1095.beta.photobucket.com/user/randombits/library/switches Don't have photo of the light fittings though. Didn't say earlier but perhaps it may...

2 way wiring - varilight dimmers

I've bought a master and slave varilight remote dimmer in order to have a dimmer on an existing two way circuit. Current wiring is as follows: Switch1: COM - orange L1 - Light Grey/Blue L2 - Dark Grey/Brown Switch 2: COM - brown L2 - Dark Grey L1 - Light Grey Varilight...

    asbestos?

Thanks, bedroom ones deffo are polystyrene. Like I said, kitchen ones are a bit harder. I kept level of info to a minimum to get a straight answer, but if I'm being more honest this is more of a 'I've already removed all these, am I in trouble?' thread. Was done about 7 years ago. The...

    asbestos?

Some pics showing ceiling tiles. The ones in the bedroom look like polystyrene so am pretty sure they are OK. The ones in the kitchen appear to be a harder material. Are these likely to contain any asbestos or likely to be safe to remove? Thanks...

    ESP Infinite or alternative?

Thanks. The only issue is the wireless keypad costs £100. The ESP wireless keypad is £40. And the kit is more in the first place. Having spoken to alert, they know of no issues with ESP going forward, and say they sell loads of them without any issue. OK, I guess they would say that, but...

    ESP Infinite or alternative?

Sorry to bump, but need to work this out ASAP. Could someone please summarise the main players in professional wireless alarms, or point me at what I should be looking at as an alternative to ESP. Thanks

    ESP Infinite or alternative?

My eurosec wired has been solid for last 7 year's. Just want something wireless which will give equivalent reliability. I understood the esp was very good. What equivalents are there? I agree there is a lot of rubbish out there, hence posting. Thanks

    ESP Infinite or alternative?

I'm looking at installing an alarm system for my parents. It MUST be wireless. It must also be reliable and not have false alarms etc. A while back I was recommended an ESP infinite by a guy at work, who says his has been great. Seems to fit the bill. I will have main unit in loft...

    New 13A socket from loft

I need a power point in my bedroom for a TV. It is next to a wardrobe so what I'd like to do is run a 13A socket from my loft down into my fitted wardrobe and out to the TV. There is also a cat5 and Coax cable taking the same route, and can be done with the minimum of hassle/mess.. In the...

Oiling a deck - advice please

I gave as much detail as possible to avoid additional questions. I was hoping to get advice from people who do this on a weekly basis on what to avoid and what how to ensure it works first time. I certainly don't want to have to rip it all out again. And I'm also bright enough to...

Oiling a deck - advice please

I put a deck in late march. Its tanalised redwood boards I believe. I want to keep it natural, but protected, so am going for Liberon DOCL5L Decking Oil in clear which appears to be the one most people recommend. I spoke to liberon and they suggested I leave it a year before doing, but the...

add wireless PIR in shed to existing system - possible?

Thanks, that's the sort of thing I was thinking about. But it's a little more than I was thinking about - anything a bit cheaper, or is this my only option?
