After pressing the lockout reset the motor should get power. This will drive the fan and oil pump together at the same time. Is it spinning at all? could be a jammed oil pump........

The pump running would indicate there's a switch live which should also fire the burner. As said you should have two resets - the one on the burner control box and the one under the panel. have you pressed both? were either lit up/popped out?

don't worry about removing it. Just cap/disconnect the pipes in the airing cupboard that go to it. If you isolate the tank that feeds it in the loft(left hand in your image) and drain the rads etc first.

Sounds like a back box. Can you post a pic of the fire. How many radiators do you have and where are they? All upstairs? Up and down? Is the fire ok to light? Has the chimney been swept/checked? What gets hot when the fires going? Sounds like you need a boiler.........

Just an immersion heating it would be direct, boiler flow and return's piped through it via a internal coil would be indirect with immersion back up. Are you planning on pumping the shower or keeping it gravity fed?

Behind the metal cover is the combustion chamber and should only be accessed by an RGI. In there a leak could be coming from an automatic air valve, o-ring on a pipe connection or the heat exchanger..........
