    OM Woody , i get that , but would binders running across the joists and attached the rafters at the eaves help.? Would noggins running between the joists help , then attached to the rafters at the eaves and plate?

    I have a new build porch which is open to the elements entirely on one side. I want the super smooth finish of a mortar screed -100mm deep , rather that the bobbly effect of tamped concrete. Will the screed be ok outside ? :wink: Thanks again

    254, is a big ol beam, must be spanning a decent length. The span is 5600. Bloody architect. Everything he touches is laiden with problems , glitches and complications , but he never thinks ahead of his next daft direction.

    The chippies who have put on a narrow flat roof above a hallway on a new extention have used 5" ceiling joists. 5x25mm=125mm. Current b regs require 270mm. If i put in that much ill hav to lower the ceiling. Any ideas please?. :wink:

    No , they dont do any eaves lintels over 2700. Why do these lintels have a 75 flap sticking out on them? Ill have to get the Architect to give me some guidence. Trouble is ----hes not the easiest to get in touch with.

    Jeds, Thats for the reply. I used the catnic product delector and it came up with found a box lintel ----http://www.catnic.com/lintels/CN55A.aspx Ive got cavity walls so this must sit on top of the inner skin??? They only supply these up to 2700 !!
