Hi Is planning permission need for an air conditioning unit to be installed in a residential property? I have looked online and am getting mixed signals with some air con installers saying they can sell units which get around pp requirements because there is no external unit where as others...

Views on plastered in GU10 light sockets or LED profiles

Generally speaking, if the light fitting type is one that you plaster in, I'm not sure you'd be able to get access to the parts that would need replacing anyway as it would be a tight fit to get your hand inside and to the back to change anything?

Views on plastered in GU10 light sockets or LED profiles

I'm at a stage of plastering ceilings and walls which has plasterboard. Before then I'm thinking of whether I should install plaster-in style light sockets in the ceiling or LED profiles. Am I right to worry about the headache that I will face if one of these units break down and need...

    Automatic awnings

TBH I'd probably just keep it closed and manually open it when need it. But point taken about the sensor. Do you recall whether there was a choice of which way the motor was positioned.

    Automatic awnings

If I'm not fussed about the sun sensor automatically activating the blind and don't want to see ugly cables going over my parapet wall, I guess this can all be left off and I just activate with the radio remote whenever? Can I ask how much you had to budget paying for these awnings / size?

    Automatic awnings

Thanks for the reply. So, I was thinking of installing an external IP rated 3 pin socket above the patio doors to the left. Did you have a lot of ugly cabling showing against the brick wall? Which side was the motor on? I presume the remote control will work inside the house or do you have...

    Can I simply replace a Sky+ box with a Sky Q one?

Pls remind me, what is the equivalent of the Sky+ HD box without the recording called, just Sky HD box? I've got a Manhattan box to replace my (sometimes not working Sky+ HD box) but my mother doesn't like it as she prefers more of the free to air cultural channels available on Sky box and has...

How are location maps updated with accurate building structures?

Yes that is what I thought, but who the heck is minded to look at every property in the land to see if there is a marginal change in the property and also if the side of an 5x3m outbuilding is slightly skewed along the boundary wall? That's nuts.

How are location maps updated with accurate building structures?

Using these online mapping software, I notice that my PD outbuilding is correctly positioned on these ordnance survey maps despite me not lodging any application etc. Even the angle is shockingly correct and accurate. How is this achieved?

    Can I simply replace a Sky+ box with a Sky Q one?

So when I bought my Sky+ HD box some 10 years ago, I dont recall able to see "the main" free channels without a viewing card. I recall purchasing a card from Sky for about £20/£30 upon which I could then access the free channels. Whenever I removed this card from the receiver, the channels...

    Can I simply replace a Sky+ box with a Sky Q one?

A sky card was required once upon a time to watch free to air channels. I remember my sky plus HD box required it whenever I tried to tune into a FTA channel. They must have changed the policy as I have been happily watching FTA without the card in for the last 5 years or so.
