Engineered wood floor on floorboards - high moisture reading

So I lifted a up few boards. The main house has about 70cm space under the joists onto dirt. The hall about 10cm space under joists down to what looks like concrete. I can't see any signs of damp but I guess it must be lack of airflow as you said. There is only one air brick for the hall and 4...

I do like the look of them and at 20mm thick they can't be too heavy. Any idea of the weight of the larger ones? ta

Whats the least back breaking way to lay a patio?

This a DIY forum so clearly I've decided against this For anyone else finding this thread by searching.. Vitrified porcelain seems to be the best option. At 20mm thick manufacturers claim they are lighter than traditional slabs. Block paving is also far easier to lay although not suitable...

Whats the least back breaking way to lay a patio?

Hi, The last time I used the old 600 X 600 slabs and it almost killed me. Can anyone give any tips as to what method / materials make the job a little easier? I've seen porcelain paving described as 'lightweight' but not sure I believe it. thanks

Does my kitchen wall fan require an isolation switch?

Hi, I'm planning on fitting a wall mounted extractor fan in the kitchen controlled by a wall mounted switch. It will not be a timed or humidstat fan so there will not be a permanent live. Will the fused on/off fan switch be sufficient to be considered the isolator? or do I need to install...

My mistake! I need to raise the floor by 60mm NOT 600mm  Good job I hadn't called the concrete people so 1/2m3, A 3M X 2.5M room by 60mm. An online calculator says I need around 40 X 25kg bags which does sound like a lot of mixing.

I'm thinking of getting ready mixed but worried I might not be able to level it all out in time before it goes off (an hour or so?). If I hire a mixer and do it myself can I then just...

    Soundproofing a party wall

I used gyproc soundblock boards, the spec said it reduces sound by 60db. I guess when your party wall is already 20cm think adding 2-3cm more of any material won't make a huge difference.

    Soundproofing a party wall

I used soundboard on our entire party wall and can honestly say it made no noticeable difference. We could hear the neighbours TV just as easily as before. A layer of rockwool is the way to go, the thicker the better

Thanks I'll get a few quotes in and see whats what. I think it also depends where you live, I can't get any plaster from the normal places in Birmingham (wickes, selco etc) Hoping plasterers have their own secret supply

We are looking to get our downstairs (about 4 rooms) skimmed. Seeing as multifinish is so hard to get and prices on ebay about £20 a bag, is plastering really expensive at the moment? We paid around £350 a room in the past Ta
