Ring main circuits appear to be radial at consumer unit.

Yes. If it is a lollipop arrangement, the cable at the CU would need to be 4mm2 or bigger, which would be standed.

Ring main circuits appear to be radial at consumer unit.

A good opportunity. A lollipop circuit is defined as a radial serving a ring. I dislike them. If the the two 2.5mm2 cables in parallel are not loading any appliances on route then it could be considered a radial.

Ring main circuits appear to be radial at consumer unit.

I’ve pulled my kitchen out and intend to bring everything up to date before I reinstall So that’s a radial converted to ring further down the line?

    Silicone & masking tape......never again!

I always use green frog tape for this job. The trick I have found is to apply silicone using a lollipop stick - its perfect radius and super easy to manouvere. If you apply the tape at just the right distance from the joint on both vertical and horizontal faces, there is minimum overlap of...

Extend ring main into new room

...terminals will not handle a 4 mm² or 6 mm² cable, and it is sometimes referred to as a kitchen ring. And we also have specials like the lollipop supply. But this is a standard British ring final system as designed at the end of WWII to allow the rebuild using less copper, which was at the...

    Reuse old cooker cable

A single upfront RCD isn't compliant either and you wont get one to fit that board either

    Reuse old cooker cable

I would say a correct RCD at the end of the 6mm would satisfy things. You can use 2.5 mm if lollipop loop. Or 4mm2 or 6mm2 if radial (not a loop).

    Reuse old cooker cable

...will consider upgrading it in the future as it looks dated and probably not safe according to current standards. Would you please advise if lollipop circuit and 4mm2 cable is safe enough for me to use? No fire hazard? Wago -> socket -> socket -> socket - socket - Wago Is is possible to fit...

    Reuse old cooker cable

4mm would be adequate as opposed to 6mm2. Easier to work with. The lollipop circuit means you can use smaller cable - might confuse someone in the future who doesn't know their stuff, but so what? As regards to the RCD not being compliant for new sockets... pity.

    Reuse old cooker cable

...Both cables (Shower and Cooker) are placed next to each other and not being used. Their continous length is <10m. I have investigated lollipop circuits and found mixed opinions. Some people say it is better to create radial circuits and use 6mm2 all along instead of 2.5mm2. What is youre...

    Reuse old cooker cable

A lollipop circuit means running a 2.5mm2 from the junction box to first socket. Then from the first socket to the second socket. Then from the second socket to the third socket,,, and so on, and so on, then from the last socket back to the junction box again. OR Use 4mm2 from the junction box...

Single to double socket off fused spur

...when I first encountered one. Equally I've worked on 50/60/63A ring finals for 13A sockets in commercial properties, particularly IT situations and in nightclubs it was (my knowledge based in mid 90's) normal to have a lollipop final running 50+ KW sound systems. Edited to make more sense.

    Two Sockets stopped working

...have - no problem, it is listed as a standard circuit. I am more interested in the breaker in the off position - could that be the circuit in question? Example - could it be a repurposed old shower etc circuit that is now a dedicated small ring/radial or even a lollipop (a.k. A lasso) circuit?

    Twin ring circuit

...if either leg exceeded 16 amp it would trip, however never done it or seen it done. However this was one of the reasons why not to use the lollipop system, where a large cable brings the supply across the house, possibly a 6 mm² into a junction box, a cooker connection unit seem favourite...

Ring Final Circuits (OK I don`t think that Flameport likes them!)

I found a pair of rings sitting on the end of a heavy cable, I think bigger than 10mm² on green Wylex 45A fuse. On site electrician was going on about 2.5mm² being capable of 25A so nothing wrong with it...

Ring Final Circuits (OK I don`t think that Flameport likes them!)

There's clearly nothing wrong (electrically) with a (correctly designed) 'lollipop circuit', even if it is not mentioned, or illustrated as an example, in BS7671 or any of the associated documents - and I can see no reason why a correctly designed one would not be fully compliant with regs. I...

Ring Final Circuits (OK I don`t think that Flameport likes them!)

Shall we discuss "Lollipop Circuits" now? One remark I heard a few years back was that a 6.0 T & E had a 2.5 cpc yet the ring portion had 2 x 1.5 cpcs therefore 3.0 equivalent therefore such a reduction could be dangerous. Only a couple of times in my working life have I converted an obsolete...
