    It's over..who will take over ?

To whom do we address the requisition to stop the boats from being destroyed?

Got myself a wee problem. Thoughts & ideas appreciated.

Is there any 'Spockets' under the bottom row of tiles? That row does appear to be at a different slope the rest of the roof with a large gap under the bottom edge of the second row. That is likely to allow wind blown water up under the second row. Sprockets are wedges that affix to the bottom...

Window Sill and Frame Rot Repair/Bodge - Best Options?

To far gone! Bodge, then. When the rain stops and the timber drys out brush the loose rotten wood away. Use copious amounts of wood hardener on the bare timber. Buy a length of architrave or pencil topped skirting Cut that to fit between the walls. Chop out the rotten timber on the uprights...

    Dodgy Superser portable Butane heater.

The safety 'device', at least in the ones I've seen, are a fine mesh over the air input holes to the pilot flame - same principle as a miner's Davy lamp.

    Dodgy Superser portable Butane heater.

Good grief - I didn't know they were still selling these nasty, dangerous things. They make enormous amounts of damp* as well as carbon dioxide and if they don't burn cleanly Carbon Monoxide - you have installed a CO monitor haven't you? In every room in the house. If left burning in one room...

    Voluntary Redundancy

Where I worked we had a lot of staff take redundancy or just leave; many finished on Friday but came back on the following Monday into the same job! The reasons for most leaving was to get more money and the employer was happy as they didn't have to pay so much in 'hidden' costs* of employing...

    Re-roof ideas and plan

Picture 1 I see 'Soakers' but are they over the tiles? There should be a Flashing over the soakers, either straight or stepped. Soakers should extend under the tiles for at least half the width of the tiles and are the length of the tiles. The flashing then goes over the upright side of the...

    Labour do it again!

Nothing to do with the weather, then? As someone who spends a lot of my time on and in the sea water I wouldn't wish to be travelling in an open (small) boat this last Month!

Prepping for Solar - Installing Cable

Both neighbours who have had solar installed in the last three years their installers used 10mm T&E for the interconnect cables. One has a Battery, one doesn't.

The UK government didn’t want you to see this report

I know. They haven't a clue and should be ashamed of themselves. All they can see is more votes for the next election.

The UK government didn’t want you to see this report

There is a solution, which China has, for it's own state some years ago, recognised. e The human overpopulation of the planet. Unfortunately, for the rest of the world it needs both political and religious input to actively be firm with mankind to limit childbirth to a maximum of say two...

How to repair exterior door after storm

I think there is 2 expedient methods. How is the glazing and the 'raised and fielded' panel retained? By beadings or slots in the door frame. Method 1 - the easiest; Obtain (if do have, beg borrow 2 or 3 sash clamps that are the full width of the door. Take the door down. Once you have done...

60cm cooker not 60cm - how to move kitchen unit / worktop

M-I-L had this problem with her 'new' cooker. The workaround was to take the side panels off the new cooker when then just fitted in. Her kitchen had been built to the size of her original cooker. Most free standing kitchen units are built to 60.5cm wide so really the gap ought to be 61cm wide.

No from me. Trump has actually said said something today I agree with - ulp! Giving the Chagos islands away is stupid!

    Straight flashing replaced with stepped

I hope you know what 'Soakers' are - Lengths of the Flashing material that extend under the roofing slates/tiles about half width of roofing and around 2inch/50mm up the wall under the flashing. There should be a separate soaker per tile/slate.

Is FTTP (Fiber to the premises) really the future?

Now here is a question (or 2)... It's many years since I finished working on the PSTN (and number 'routing') so I don't know the answer to the but I do wonder if someone in the collective knowledge has an idea. I see that with the shift to 'Digital Voice' and speech calls carried on the...

    Smart meter home display question

I just been forced to have a f****** 'smart meter' - day reading are OK but the night readings are way, way out - like 350%! Nothing has changed in the overnight usage, previously it was find 12 units per night now it's around 40 units even if the big MAN was taking power for all 7 hours that is...

Is FTTP (Fiber to the premises) really the future?

So your old copper 'phone cable was U/G fed through a duct to the house? If so the installers can and should have used that. Your description of the installed internal Fibre indicates it doesn't have a proper protective sheath.
