    Covering flakey paint

Thanks for bumping my post tododo, but your reply's not all that relevant to my problem. I already knew that the existing paint wasn't any good in my bathroom and I've got better paint to go over the top but have found that loads of the old paint is flaking off. I don't have much time off...

    Covering flakey paint

We've started decorating our bathroom and come accross a problem with some flakey paint. There were several areas where the paint was flaking and curling so we were just going to scrape these off before we started painting but as we scraped these off we found that we could easily just scrape off...

Zanussi Jetsystem Excel 1250 washer (new sauna function!)

I think you are right zipper. The machine is old and I suppose it needs replaced now - any repair is certainly beyond me and I can't see it being worth spending money on getting it repaired/condemned by an engineer. Thanks for your advice and also to captaincaveman for his help.

Zanussi Jetsystem Excel 1250 washer (new sauna function!)

Today I put it back together again and tested it. It managed to do a short wash - filled, turned the drum, emptied - all okay, but stopped at the spin. I stopped the machine and set it to a different spin, again nothing. Now it won't do anything again apart from drain. Whatever I set it to now...

Zanussi Jetsystem Excel 1250 washer (new sauna function!)

Checked thermistor and brushes today - both fine. Nothing seemed to be loose anywhere and no obvious signs of blown components or damage. Where do I look next?

This wouldn't explain the boiling water though, would it?

Zanussi Jetsystem Excel 1250 washer (new sauna function!)

Yeah, tried that - it didn't spin, but did make noises like it would be pumping out water.

I can. I remember now there was another number at the top right hand side but I didn't write it down. I'll post it tonight when I get home. Thanks for your interest so far.

Zanussi Jetsystem Excel 1250 washer (new sauna function!)

Yesterday, after the washing machine had been on for a while I noticed that the cycle wasn't moving on. I put my hand on the door and it felt boiling hot and when I opened the door loads of steam came out. I then moved on the cycle to drain the drum, which it did. I moved the cycle on to spin...

    Removing Basin Waste Branch

The old basin waste is fairly long and ugly, plus I've also got the new waste pipe fitted already (at great expense), so I'm fairly committed to getting rid of this old one. I'll have a look at getting a blanking plug for the reduced part. It won't have to look pretty as I might end up boxing...

    Removing Basin Waste Branch

Anyone? I didn't think that this would be too difficult.

    Removing Basin Waste Branch

I am re-routing the waste pipe from the basin in the bathroom and I want to remove the connection into the soil pipe and patch up the hole. Both pipes are plastic. In the picture the soil pipe goes through a stone wall to the left and connects to the toilet on the right. How do I go...

Adding washing machine waste (should be easy)

You'll see from the photo that I have plenty of space to lower the trap. The top of the washing machine hose will be at about 850mm but will then need to drop a bit as it comes through the cupboard to avoid the drawer that you can just see in the top right of the photo.

Adding washing machine waste (should be easy)

Thanks Andy. Again, I'm worried that this would leave the hose connector too high. But I'll give one of these options a try.

Adding washing machine waste (should be easy)

Thanks for the quick reply seco. I guess this has a fitting on the top that will screw on to the basin waste. I have to pass the washing machine outlet hose (with an extension), through a cupboard with a drawer in it and reckon this might leave the connection a bit high. That was why I was...

Adding washing machine waste (should be easy)

I want to add a connection for my washing machine waste under my kitchen sink. I was going to lower the trap a bit so that I can put in a t-piece with a waste hose nozzle. I'm using 40mm plastic pipe. What can I use to connect a piece of 40mm pipe to the threaded part of the basin waste? The...

Add compression tee to existing pipe

It's just for 15mm cold water pipe. Thanks for all of your advice. It's still a while before I'll get round to doing the job - I'm just trying to anticipate any problems I might have.

Add compression tee to existing pipe

Thanks, this is what I thought I'd probably do. You'll be hearing from me if this doesn't work.

Add compression tee to existing pipe

I'm sure this simple question will have been answered before but I can't find it in the forums - how do you fit a compression tee to existing solid copper pipe? I've not cut the pipe yet but I'm guessing that there won't be enough movement in the pipes to get the ends into the fitting. Maybe...
