I broke the main fuse seal

I fitted an isolator before the smart meter was fitted, but the fuse was not sealed anyway, so meter readers it seems did nothing, seal was fitted same time as smart meter fitted. I have in essence three electric meters. 1) The Smart Meter, 2) The solar panels inverters CT coil, 3) A meter...

Light in room flickers when turning it on

I had it with a landing lamp, and it seems when re-wired, the electrician has simply not get the wire in the terminal under the screw, and it was just touching. Nothing looked wrong, but slight tug on wire showed it to be loose. Found some years after the rewire.

No call for central heating - problem solving

The reason for showing the wiring centre, was that I have three diagrams, showing how the system has been added to over the years, adding a tank thermostat allowed one to run boiler for domestic hot water (DHW) in the summer, other than a simple timed run, ensuring it gets hot enough to stop...

iboost+ seems a little odd, when I think it is switching on, but could be OK!

I looked at my software and noted a high load. The 3313 watt load seems around 3000 watt too high, but before I could check the immersion heater load had dropped. This does not seem long enough to be the immersion heater. Second spike wife was out, so nothing she has done, the first peak seems...

Motorized valve stuck in open position.

Is this with the power to central heating turned off? If so motorised valve faulty, if not, it may be powered so valve not faulty.

Portable battery packs, are they worth having, and how to use?

Jonathan Tracey has now released his video for all to view. Hats off to him, he has raised some very good points. Plug and play can't require any CT coils fitted, or anything which requires specialist electric knowledge, it will mean we need a smart meter, and we will need a tariff which will...

No call for central heating - problem solving

The basic C plan is very simple, I also have C Plan, and I have modified mine to increase control, but it is rather simple.

Converting a double socket - do these parts exist?

I used Screwfix grid switch plates. (LAP).

Horstmann Electronic 7 not supplying 240v

It seems odd both contacts would fail together. The neutral is common, so I would be looking at the neutral wires.

    13amp? cooker socket

If the heat only goes into the oven, until you open the oven door, it will not heat the room, I know in a commercial kitchen moving to induction hobs can reduce the cooling fans or air conditioners require by a huge amount, in a domestic kitchen we just put up with the heat.

    13amp? cooker socket

So a gas oven will not make a kitchen hot? This must be a new fangled oven, as those I have used, resulted in a hot kitchen.

Portable battery packs, are they worth having, and how to use?

I would love to work out, what causes the base load? I must get my clamp-on out. Clamp-on shows around 1.9 amps, on the leads into the consumer unit, this does not include freezers and central heating. And 19 amps on leads into the smart meter, it does not show direction, so assume export. I...

    13amp? cooker socket

@JohnD has put it well. I do remember the old Baby Belling cooker, the oven switch also selected other functions, so you could not use all together. It seems they are still cookers of this type but I would call them counter top, not free-standing. I have a 2 kW counter top induction hot plate...

    Meter serial numbers

As @JohnW2 has said, they will want the MPAN number/s. I can't really show you mine, it is not something one wants to show on the internet. There is one for import, and one for export, if you don't export only one number. But may have a different system, and different colour cables to the UK...

Portable battery packs, are they worth having, and how to use?

Seems I am not being plain in describing system without grid tie. The load for example freezers plugs into the battery pack not a grid supplied socket. The solar, if any, can also plug into the battery pack, there is no way it can back feed. What I am saying is a freezer which has an energy...

Portable battery packs, are they worth having, and how to use?

This is what started the discussion on small solar panels. The point to remember in Germany where this is popular, they have a much larger rented sector to us, and so being able to move solar panels home to home is far more important. In the main they have 16 amp sockets on radials, so the...

    Looking after an SLA battery

That was always my thoughts, however, father-in-law died, found two 7 Ah batteries which came off his chair lift, and thought I would give it a go, had to put in parallel with a good battery, as smart charger would not charge it, did one at a time, and the energy monitor showed it had charged...

Dash pot time delay for starter overloads, was it real.

It is some time ago, Ellesmere Port, around 1970, I seem to remember the in-rush delay for a starter was done using a dash pot with oil in them, google hunt failed to find them, seemed an excellent idea, as once started the overload would trip faster than the temperature type which replaced...

Portable battery packs, are they worth having, and how to use?

The balcony grid tied solar, would clearly generate revenue, but not sure if enough to be really worthwhile? And as yet not permitted, so was more looking at the battery, as mine are not big enough in winter, so a third battery will help in winter. The debate is fixed or portable, the fixed...
