    Covering expansion gap skirting (1)

I managed source some nice oak trim for around the stairs that would cover the gaps but I could also use it against the wall? It won't offer the protection of a skirting though so would most people still put a chunky skirting here or use this? Thanks

    Velux window plaster board support

Yeah you're right it's Fakro. I've made a frame. I was tempted to use expanding foam but I can fill the frame with insulation. That part of the void is actually part of the house , it was originally an outside wall but this is the extension I'm redoing.

    Velux window plaster board support

Hi Putting a velux in and have made a frame around the existing ceiling to roof so I can attach board to it. On one side there is a huge void behind the board so I have mocked up using an old plasterboard to get some idea of what to do. Would you put timber packers behind or screw up some...

    Covering expansion gap skirting (1)

Hi I had a quick search and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. Fitted engineering wood floor (4mm) veneer. I have an expansion gap normally around 10mm but at most 20 in places before I got my eye in! I was hoping to avoid scotia and my skirting is a few mm shy. So do I just buy...

Underfloor heating tripping RCCB when calling for heat.

You're spot on. Thanks for the explanation. I ran an extension cable from socket from the boiler circuit to ufh wiring Centre and pump and no problem at all. I'm going to put the boiler on a fused spur on the same circuit as UFH - this is simple enough to do and hopefully cure it.

Underfloor heating tripping RCCB when calling for heat.

So the only wire connecting the two circuits is the external wire from the UFH wiring centre to the microswitch wiring. Would this still be a borrowed neutral situation?

Underfloor heating tripping RCCB when calling for heat.

The underfloor heating has it's own pump too and it's oil fed - not that it makes much difference!

Underfloor heating tripping RCCB when calling for heat.

Yes. An alternative to this I could run a long extension to the underfloor heating from the same circuit as the boiler - this is what I did before the electrician came! A bit messy really but I suppose a good test or add the boiler on the new extension. I totally understand that it's not good...

Underfloor heating tripping RCCB when calling for heat.

Hi I have a wunda underfloor heating wiring centre that calls for heat and fires the boiler from a switched live that connects to a zone valve. When the call for heat is made the RCCB trips. I have disconnected the pump and tested and it's still tripping so maybe it's a faulty zone valve or...

    Halogen light with LED lamps

Yeah I did read that there can be buzzing / flickering issues sometimes with LED's. I thought the more sophisticated dimmers might cope with this!? Anybody any experience of this?

    Halogen light with LED lamps

Hi, We have decided that we quite like these lights https://www.next.co.uk/style/st132278/818334#818334 When I read the bumf it says to use halogen G4 lamps, this is putting us off slightly as why would we be using / why are they selling halogen when LED's are becoming the norm!? I have...

extending lighting cable - limited room

I have thought about this , it's a possibility but it means a fair bit of cutting and notching through the timbers I put on to screw the plasterboard onto and the timber is just roofing lath and might destroy when I drill/ cut it!

extending lighting cable - limited room

Not really. It's got about 6metre run down lintel up walls, it would make a right mess. It's my own fault!

extending lighting cable - limited room

Yes. I have all of the above and it sounds like a good shout given the little room I have.

extending lighting cable - limited room

No. I just looked at those and the gap is only a few mm.

extending lighting cable - limited room

Hi I made some mis-calculations when running my lighting cable and need to extend the cable by about 1 metre. I have some decent connectors (wago etc) but I have no room to place a wago junction box becasue the cable runs under a steel beam with little room. I can get the cable connected but no...

Worcester greenstar utility 18/25 oil constantly locking out.

Thanks to all the great suggestions for helping with the boiler. I have had help fixing my boiler for over 10 years with some of the same guys helping every time - that's quite something if you ask me. I am three days in after oilhead suggestion of a longer photocell and not one lockout! The...

Thanks for replies. I will start with the easiest! A longer photocell and good clean of blast tube area. I will report back.

No. I never thought of this. So should be OK to put the longer version in, I didn't realise you had a choice?!
