wetroom advice before i make a mistake

Berty i've given advice on this forum before and i'll be called a cowboy by some on here who want to get the top dog on the forums, but I can only tell you that tanking a domestic shower is overkill imo. I can also tell you on the years that we were contracting to all the major house builders...

    Roof rafter question

thanks for the replies all. Think were gonna go with birdsmouth cuts to top and bottom. Another question regarding the pitch of the roof. We can only get 10degrees max due to windows above. The architect who did the calcs and design has screwed up (thats another story) and has gone quiet...

    Floor tile notched spreader

lol no worries fella. We all started by giving it a go in Tiling. My preference is 5mm square notched trowel for the walls and 10mm round for the floor. I'll sometimes use 8mm on the walls for larger format tiles if the wall is a bit out.

Thanks for the reply Noseall and Catlad. So regarding the birdsmouth cut to the top is it worth calling BC to check before I start? I was hoping to get going this weekend. Cheers Paul

step from tile to carpet 20mm

Another option, a tile in ramp bar as shown here http://www.floorandwallsolutions.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=954 just one of many on the market. Another trick you can do is put some cardboard under the carpet underlay around the door threshold to lift the carpet...

    Roof rafter question

Hi all, Im looking to build a roof this weekend on my single storey extension. Timbers are 200 x 50, and the wall plates are 100 x 50. My question is do I need to do a birdsmouth cut at the top as well as on the wall plate that sits on top of the brickwork (bottom of the rafter), or can I...

    Floor tile notched spreader

JCT is right, plus using a bigger notch gives you more play with the tile especially on larger tiles. Sometimes you can use bigger notched trowles to get over poor floors/walls.

    Tiling over old adhesive

LMAO yup thats me did I mention I used to have a contract tiling business subbing to Metronet, all the major housebuilders and numerous shopfits/renovations etc etc employing 40 tilers and have read more M40's and run more contracts than I care to remember????? Just your average bathroom basher

opinions on needing to tile before positioning bath.

Not strictly true I always come off full tile on a bath unless the cuts don't work out. I think full tile off the bath looks neater and all the sites i've ever worked on spec it.

How to make shower cubicle water tight?

or you could do what 1000's of new home builders do (including the major house builders) and go on plasterboard.

    Tiling over old adhesive

who are they who recommend floor tile backer board? The shopkeepers who never lay tiles other than a hot glue gun on a display? You could have gone over what you already had if the ply was good enough and not moving. Last time I saw ditra matting specified was in commercial showers in a...

Removing emulsion from wall before tiling

Well if thats what the scientists at Granfix are recommending, acrylic primer then who am I to argue with that? :D Your right what the manufacturers recommend and what we have to do on site quite often contradict each other and we have to just go with it sometimes. After all most...

Bevelled 'brick' tiles in 3-sided shower cubicle

Not sure how you are putting the tray in but you should apply clear mastic to all edges of the tray that meet the Aquaboard, smoothing off around the top of the tray then start full tile from the tray and work up. I just go full tile on and my mastic man seals around the tiles. In effect you...

Removing emulsion from wall before tiling

Sure im not looking for an argument with TPT. He is entitled to his opinion and im entitled to mine. If the OP wants to somehow remove all the emulsion paint from the walls then good luck to him. I can only tell him from my 24 year experience working on new builds and domestics as a tiler...
