    Do these turn off?

Hi all, ... please see photo. My towel radiator has 2 of these ‘valves’. They each have one screw-in pin. The fitting does not appear to turn with or without the pin screwed in. The question is: are these actual ‘valves’ and should I be able to stop the flow of hot water to the rad using these...

    Pipe work identification

Thank you both. The house was not finished so I guess the cover-less boiler was not unusual. I didn’t see a water cylinder but given the vague knowledge from the sales person and the odd pipes in the cupboard, I thought it best to ask (y)

    Pipe work identification

Hi all, I just viewed a new house that I am thinking about buying. The sales person said it had a combi boiler. It did have a boiler in the kitchen but with no cover and I couldn’t see a model reference. Please see attached pic. This was in the cupboard on the landing. The sales person did not...

Tap: any idea of the problem?

...thanks..it is a 1/4 turn. I needed o buy a part then fit it though - if possible...rather than turn off the water, take it apart, then go to the shop. ...but by the sound of it, this is not an option.

Tap: any idea of the problem?

Morning! Please see pic of tap. It's a lever tap - but it's just started running constantly. Moving the handle alters the flow but more in a random sense. 1) could it just be that it needs a new washer? 2) if it's the washer, what kind do I ask for at the plumbers merchant? (size / spec)...

    Shower water connection....I hate them!!!

The ptfe was not on the nut...it was on the other part and over-lapped into the fitting so the olive / nut would have tightened against the ptfe. If I take it apart, do I need to use a new olive?

    Shower water connection....I hate them!!!

Morning!! I fitted a shower last night. But I couldn't completely stop a 'weaping' from the water connection: As you know, the short pipe connection from the shower is plastic. That went into a stainless compression fitting using a brass (maybe copper) olive, and stainless nut. I wraped a...

Alarm not working since meter changed

.... I disconnected the mains supply and battery, then re-connected both. The system seemed to be back to normal. I entered the arming code and the 'DAY' light came on on the panel, but, there was no continuous tone which was obviously the 'arming' tone warning. I found the manual on-line...

    swapping mains-powered smoke alarms

'll ask him what type of alarm they are. Although the 'replace-by' date on the units is nearly reached, the main reason for replacing them is that they are faulty - the battery goes quite quickly apparently, and they should just be for back-up purposes.

    swapping mains-powered smoke alarms

OK, so if we get replacements, are they all the same connections...ie 3 core and earth - live, neutral, switch live and earth?

    swapping mains-powered smoke alarms

Hallo my mate has 2 mains-powered smoke alarms which are not working properly and also are due for replacement according to a sticker on them. Can he just remove them and use battery smoke alarms, or is there any kind of regulation re. removing mains-powered alarms? The house is an...

    Alarm not accepting code

Hi All, My friends alarm is powered but not acccepting the arming code. It was de-powered when he had some work done. There is no model references but optima is the name on the 'base' (understairs cupboard) and accenta is the name on the key pad (hall). No model numbers or further info...

Alarm not working since meter changed

Hi All. Someone has asked me to look at an alarm which 'has not worked since Eon changed the meter'. I am assuming it was disconnected. If it was disconnected, will it 'go off' if I just reconnect it or is it likely to work with the old pin code, or, will it need re-initiating ? I do...

    Shower - hot and cold

...well, the shower worked for a long time, then the fault developed, without any apparent pressure reduction.

    Shower - hot and cold

Hallo all. I had a simple message from a mate which can be summarised: "shower running hot and cold". Pressure is not the issue. I do not have any technical information, but can you just advise if there is a 'usual' fault resulting in these symptoms. I am guessing that the power to...
