Why dose this happen? tumble dryer/rcd question

...Some RCD's like to just keep tripping once they have been tripped. Same thing hapened to me. I changed a lighting circuit sligtly - RCD tripped. Put everything back to how it was, then activating the shower tripped the RCD.

...no, the incomer is a 100A breaker.

Anyone know where i can get one of these, or similar?... RCD

..The 50A is for the shower. Current for this actually works out to around 38A. The 32's are rings - up,down and extension. Up and extension is low use.

Shower on separate RCD - will it help

...I did some more investigation tonight. With everything dead, I did a continuity check between the neutral at the switch and all the neutrals on the RCD side of the CU. 2 of them were positive. - upstairs ring and downstairs ring. So it seems that the lightswitch neutral is connected to 2...

Anyone know where i can get one of these, or similar?... RCD

...great, thanks again. (this is connected to my other thread - The present RCD takes a while to re-set, and also, I thought it may be worth trying, just in cast the old one is no longer performing properly).

Shower on separate RCD - will it help

    1. The RCBO on the non-protected side is a good Idea. There is a spare way but the busbar does not extend into it. Can i buy a new busbar? 2. All the lights were already there. We had a problem soon after we moved in, so I took the wall lights off. I only connected new lights back up...

Shower on separate RCD - will it help

I recently wired up some wall lights/ceiling lights. (Wall lights had never been connected since I moved in). Anyway, i think there is a bit of neutral-borrowing going on, but the wiring in the place is a nightmare (JB's under floorboards etc). I don't think I could sort it out without re-wiring...

Anyone know where i can get one of these, or similar?... RCD

Morning! Does anyone know what if there is a brand of RCD that I can use instead of one of this Volex, or where I could get a Volex RCD? Tried a couple of local wholsalers who were not very helpful. I do not want to disconnect until i have a replacement as down-time is an issue. Thanks Alex

    3V from capacitive coupling?

Hi John, As you say, I really doubt that the capping is earthed (I'm surprised there is capping at all!). I will check the N-E voltage when I get home. The switch is a 2-way 3-gang, but only the 1-way are being used. There is one supply into the switch and the other 2 gangs are linked at...

    3V from capacitive coupling?

Thanks Eric. I'm guessing then that the only other thing it could be is low insulation resistance resistance on the lighting cable.

    3V from capacitive coupling?

Just taking an aspect which did not get answered in a previous thread .... can the galv capping on a lighting cable buried in a wall, measure 3V between it and the Neutral of the circuit, as a result of capacitive coupling? Thanks

3-gang switch, non-RCD circuit tripping RCD, etc.

...Thanks Spark. There is a separate MCB for the lights (not on the RCD way). You are right though, the runs are all over the place.

3-gang switch, non-RCD circuit tripping RCD, etc.

Morning all, I tried to fit 3 wall lights last night to existing cables. Lights have not been connected since I moved in. A 3-gang switch controls 2 ceiling light and 3 wall lights. The ceiling lights each have their own switch so I assume the 3rd controls the 3 wall-lights. 2 lights are...

    Fault-finding ...Dishwasher involved

Morning all, My friend has asked me to have a look at a double-socket. He recons that when he plugs the dishwasher in, the RCD trips. Also, there are signs of heat damage (black) on the socket. So, it could be the dishwasher with a leakage current or a loose connection in the socket...

    Spirit level calibration

...ok, thanks for the responses. Believe it or not, the question was as a result of looking for a good quality level, and finding that even some of the expensive ones have adjustable vials for easy calibration! As mentioned above, all i need to do is turn the level around to see if the bubble...
