Replacing a ceiling rose with a downlighter

Thanks guys I found the piece about fire retardation in the Wiki - I am going to tell her it's beyond my remit if she wants a downlighter, but show her the other suggestion, which I certainly could do Cheers Steve

Replacing a ceiling rose with a downlighter

Ban All Sheds Bloody Hell - do you read every thread! :D This isn't for my house at all. A friend from work has got a ceiling rose with light hanging down in the hallway of her flat. I've not seen it but apparently it's so close to the front door that the door catches it every time...

Replacing a ceiling rose with a downlighter

Quick question - does this work fall within Part P? And is it acceptable to transfer the wiring from the ceiling rose into a suitable junction box (5A or 20A) in the ceiling void which will then feed the downlighter? Thanks Steve

Best gas to use for copper pipe soldering

That's fantastic Thanks to everyone for the advice. I think that with the amount of plumbing I need to do, I should probably invest in a new torch. And if Benzomatic manufacture for Rothenberger, that's what I'll go for. Cheers Steve

Best gas to use for copper pipe soldering

WOW Thanks very much for all the responses. So I get that MAPP is hotter than propane What about the mixed butane / propane gas - no mention of them? I found the instructions for my cheap blow torch (a Taymar 2000pz) and it claims to be non flare and suitable for using upside down...

Wiring for a new kitchen installation

Thanks for all the replies. Electrifying That isn't the plan at all. But when you've been seriously let down by trades in the past, what are you supposed to do? I know that there are a lot of credible / trustworthy tradespeople around - but there are also a large number of rip off...

Best gas to use for copper pipe soldering

Whenever I have done small amounts of plumbing previously, I have just used a small blow torch with butane / propane mixed gas canister. Everything has worked fine although I do get an occasional flare, and it doesn't work upside down. Having recently purchased a property which requires...

Wiring for a new kitchen installation

Thanks for all the replies. I didn't realise that this would open such a can of worms. I'm absolutely aware of the need for an electrician to be fully involved with this project. There are 2 things that drive my interest. Firstly a natural desire to understand exactly how things work...

Wiring for a new kitchen installation

I'm assuming you're saying that because of the need to have this work completed by a qualified electrician I was planning to get one in to do the final wiring in and check my plans, but I'm always interested in the projects I'm working on, hence all of my questions. But point taken Steve

Wiring for a new kitchen installation

Good evening everyone I am busy renovating a house that we have recently purchased and as soon as I've fitted the underfloor heating and the floor has been screeded, I will be installing a new kitchen. As part of the new installation, we are having 2 NEFF ovens, and an induction hob which...

Using my electronic timer to control a HWR system

Just a quick update I bought a single channel version of my main honeywell HW / CH programmer and have replaced the old timer. I've set this to run for about an hour in the morning and same in the evening. It comes on about half an hour after the boiler controller and at the minute, I'm...

Using my electronic timer to control a HWR system

Hi Matthew The pipework is pretty well insulated in the loft (apart from where rats have been active) but there isn't any obvious insulation as they run down the walls under boxwork. As I do the rooms, I shall see what I can do to improve insulation here too. Steve

Using my electronic timer to control a HWR system

Thanks again for the replies. Simon - there is a simple timer which can operate the bronze pump - currently it isn't active but I can certainly get it to run a couple of hours morning and night. And your explanation about not linking to the CW/ HW timer makes complete sense. Perhaps I...

Using my electronic timer to control a HWR system

Thanks very much for the reply. Is the secondary pump designed to run continually? At least it does explain why there isn't ever any hot water. I will have to thy and find a wiring diagram for the HW/CH programmer and work out where the wires run. What do you think about putting a...

Using my electronic timer to control a HWR system

Hello everyone This is my first post on the site but I've spent the last few evenings browsing quite a few other threads. I recently moved into a house which needs quite a bit of work doing to it. It's substantially bigger than previous properties I've owned and initally I was very...
