    Drying out plaster

Thank youy - it's bonding, so I probably would need to put the heater on for a bit. Will it stay different colours? I keep hoping that I'll wake up and it's all turned the same colour.

Dishwasher on ground floor - plumbing issue?

But if I get an extension won't I just be making the hose longer again? Or was it too long in the first place? I'm sorry for being stupid, but I am not sure how making the pipe any longer will improve the situation unless I hook it up a bit higher but not as high as it was before.

Dishwasher on ground floor - plumbing issue?

Oh for heaven's sake! Even when it was looped higher up I was getting the smell. I'm confused now. Has he done the wrong thing? Given that he sealed up a bath panel when it was still wet underneath I'm not surprised though. Can I buy these non-return valves?

    Drying out plaster

I had some plastering done at the end of December. Unbeknownst to me there was a leak building up under my bath as the overflow pipe had come loose. My plumber came and sorted the leak, but then sealed the bath up again when it was still considerably damp underneath, so the plaster went fuzzy...

Dishwasher on ground floor - plumbing issue?

Hi again all - dishwashergate continues. My plumber came and shortened the tube considerably, but there is still a smell coming from the dishwasher although not as bad as it was. I clean it regularly with white vinegar and bicarb, and scatter bicarb around it to remove the smell. What more can I...

Dishwasher on ground floor - plumbing issue?

There is a clip of some sorts on the back of the dishwasher, but I didn't quite know what to do with it. I got some brackets at the weekend and my "handyman" (useful neighbour) is going to screw them in for me. I am pretty sure the flex behind the machine is defunct as I don't know what it could...

Dishwasher on ground floor - plumbing issue?

That's what I meant - brackets. Thanks. I would like to set up something more stable so I will try to get that done at the weekend. I would rather not start trimming the pipe so as long as I can keep it in the position it's in (the smell is better already - I will blast it through with bicarb...

Dishwasher on ground floor - plumbing issue?

Yep, it's nearly ready for a wash anyway so after supper I'll run a hot wash. My thinking is: a stand pipe should be connected to the wall via those rings you can buy and then connected to the drain, which I think you could do by yourself or with a friendly neighbour's help. Is that right? It...

Dishwasher on ground floor - plumbing issue?

Would that be something I could put in myself? It's taken about an hour but I have fixed up this. Will it be ok until I can get something proper sorted?

Dishwasher on ground floor - plumbing issue?

OK thanks - I will try tying it up myself first and see how I get on rather than get the plumber out. I will also invest in a shorter pipe! This place is a goldmine of information - I have no idea what I am doing with anything practical and am very short of money so hugely appreciate the help.

Dishwasher on ground floor - plumbing issue?

Thanks all. I might try getting in the plumber who put it in first, as you'd think he'd have figured this when he put it in - but if he charges me then I will try doing it myself. In fact I might try tying the excess hose up first. So I could just tie it as Madrab says: it should rise? Would the...

Dishwasher on ground floor - plumbing issue?

Thank you all for your replies. Here are the photos. I guess some water is going stagnant in the pipe as it's all the time, even when the dishwasher is empty. The dishwasher is an upright Bosch SilencePlus Series2 if this helps anything.

Dishwasher on ground floor - plumbing issue?

My dishwasher works fine but I notice a bad smell if I've haven't run it for a day or so. I think it's standing water. I clean it regularly and also have a freshener thing in it, but I wondered if there was a problem with the plumbing as I'm on the ground floor and maybe the pipe isn't long...

    Wall problem

I moved into my little house about almost a year ago. I've noticed that some of the paint is flaking off the bathroom wall and my friend traced some damp to the airing cupboard next to it. When we peeled the paint off, the brick behind it was dry. The paint was only painted onto a 'skin' (I...

Any idea what's causing this smell?

Thanks again all. I don't put anything like that down the sewer/loo/basin/whatever, and the sink doesn't seem to be blocked anymore, but there still is an occasional smell. I guess I may have to call the plumber - but I might go for a different one.

Any idea what's causing this smell?

Just bicarb of soda? Certainly the caustic stuff seems to have done the trick.

Any idea what's causing this smell?

Does it smell all the time? Mine seems to be better since I unblocked the sink.

Any idea what's causing this smell?

Just bicarb of soda? I had put that down along with citric acid but it didn't seem to do much.
