Safe zone ? Are water pipes and electric wires supposed to be deeper than 50mm ? I've been told by a joiner at work to only screw where the nails are maybe 5mm away .Is this sensible advice ?

Hi over the last couple of weeks I've suddenly noticed loads of floorboards becoming squeaky . It's both upstairs and downstairs , am I just unlucky or could it be related to weather or something else ?

It's individual t&g floorboards that are squeaky . I had my boiler moved a few years back and I'm guessing the plumber didn't replace the boards as well as he could of !

My my floor upstairs has a few squeaky floorboards . I'm going to add a few screws at some point but I'm worried I hit a wire or pipe . My question is can a squeaky floorboard cause damage to the ceiling below ? Thanks

So I changed the hinges and the stack measured 15mm . The hinges I had where 13mm with a 4 mm packer so 2mm too thick . I used some 2mm stainless steel washers and it's working great would this be ok ?

Hi I have small cracks where the stairs meet the wall . I've tried using pollyfiller and the cracks came back within 3 weeks !. Anyone found a solution for this ? Thanks Dave

Thanks that explains why if they are going to leak it's most likely when they are closed or partially closed .

I've had the same problem before , not sure why it only leaks when turned off . It's a mystery
