    Fix carpet to another carpet?

We have bought a 'runner' - a long piece of carpet that goes down the hall to catch muddy/messy marks when entering through the front door. This lies on top of our new carpet, but the problem is that it slides around. All the fixings that I can find are to fix a carpet to a hard surface...

    BT/Openreach

By the external work do you mean that they have installed a fibre line up to your external wall? (They haven't disconnected your copper landline by any chance have they - probably not, but worth checking). Is there a little grey box somewhere on your wall at a low level? If everything in your...

    Usage when house unoccupied

We went away for eight days and I turned off every electrical appliance apart from the fridge/freezer, the router (linked to alarm console, also left on of course), and a dab radio on standby that I had overlooked. I even turned off the boiler, but not the timer/controller which has to be kept...

    Pyronix door sensor

Do most engineers leave a system so that only they can cancel a tamper alarm? Surely not. After all a burglar is not going to know my user code for the panel so it would still be perfectly secure if there was a user cancel function. I'll wait until my installer is back from holiday to find out...

    Pyronix door sensor

I have contacted Pyronix and they say that an engineer will have to come to disable the sensor and then come back to re-enable it. Can I definitely set it off and then cancel it with my code? They seem to think not!

    V11 user manual?

I have the Pyronix V11. Does anyone have a link to the full user guide (not the little paper booklet that the installer leaves)? Many thanks.

    Pyronix door sensor

I need to remove an internal door sensor in order to do some decorating. I can disable it in the app so will that also disable the tamper alarm? I don't have an engineer code so I can't use that. It's the V11.

    Pyronix alarm setting

My neighbour is in charge of our house for a while. We keep getting alerts that the siren has been triggered. Turns out that he is setting the full set with the exit door open. He insists that his system, which is identical, allows this but that can't be right can it? It's the most modern version.

    Turning off gas

I'm intending to turn off the gas when we go away as there will be no need for hot water and it might make the house a bit cooler (and safer). The instructions that came with my Worcester Greenstar say that I can switch off the boiler and timer but to leave the mains connected. Just wondering why.

    EV charger - specifics included

I had a fuse upgrade from UKPN but they insisted that the meter be upgraded before they would do it. If you have a 100A capable meter and CU plus 25mm tails you should be fine for a 100A fuse. The actual upgrade was free but they said before they came that I might have to settle for an 80A fuse...

    EV charger - specifics included

You might not need to upgrade your fuse. My electrician says he does lots of EVs with 60A fuses. He fits load monitoring where necessary.

    Immersion on plug-in timer?

Taylor...I'm assuming the two cables at the socket mean it's on the upstairs ring, which is on a 32A breaker in a dual RCD CU. Or would a radial have two cables also?

    Immersion on plug-in timer?

I've seen 3KW fires that would be plugged into the mains for far longer than my immersion would be on. As I said there would only ever be a few hundred watts drawn on that circuit most of the time, so a maximum of 3.5KW when the immersion was on for maybe 30 minutes each day. No way would the...

    Immersion on plug-in timer?

Is this a DPU? Any useful diagrams/explanation to show how to wire it into the ring? Or is it time to call my electrician? Very grateful for your input by the way.

    Immersion on plug-in timer?

    Yep. Got it now!

    Immersion on plug-in timer?

So where is the knock-out for the cable? Still can't see it.

    Immersion on plug-in timer?

Thanks. I can't work out where the cable to the immersion would emerge.

    Immersion on plug-in timer?

Here is a photo of the socket in my airing cupboard. Only the immersion heater is ever plugged in here. What could I fit in its place so that I could safely time the heater to come on and off? It is wired into the upstairs ring (before I moved in) but there are just a few radios and computers...

Changed router now Link extender password problems

Have you told the extender to use the new router's password? These devices often have a web interface where you can change the extender's settings to use the new password. It definitely won't log onto the new router until you have tweaked the settings.

    Immersion on plug-in timer?

My immersion heater plugs into a socket in the airing cupboard. I know that this is wrong but it has been like that since we moved in 30+ years ago. We rarely if ever use it - maybe twice a year. I would like to have this on a timer for a few weeks while the CH system is being...
