    32mm hole in stud 4 x 2

Well it's a 10mm for shower, two 2.5 for ring and light cable. Come to think of it I might just need that size for when the shower terminate for the isolation and then runs to the shower. Electrician said keep the wires together as much as possible.

    32mm hole in stud 4 x 2

Hi I have agreed with my electrician to run some cables around for him. Part of the run involves drilling through joists which I don't have a problem with as have LABC guidelines/ regs of where I can drill but to get to the joist I have to drill some stud wall timber ( non load bearing) can I...

Shower isolator and Extractor fan recommendations

https://www.toolstation.com/airvent-100mm-mixed-flow-inline-extractor-fan/p70282 This one is a little more than the other because it's mixed flow maybe? Reviews look OK so maybe a good bet? Some are only £30 but I want a decent one!

Shower isolator and Extractor fan recommendations

Hi I am having problem getting an electrician. I am doing a self build and had a guy lined up to install my shower extractor fan electrics etc. Since the relaxing of covid he has found a job for a few months so I am in the lurch a little. I have all the electrical gear he/she needs apart from...

Cutting sandstone lintels to make steps

Yeah will do. I think I will chalk outline the slab first all the way around. So maybe go for about 100mm thick? You think Stihl saw better than bolster and hammer?

Cutting sandstone lintels to make steps

Hi I am planning on cutting up some sandstone lintels and use them as steps. I was hoping to attempt to cut some flag type steps about 30mm or so. I have a bolster chisel and hammer etc but also have a stihl stone cutting saw with diamond blade. Is the stihl the way to go? I was wondering if I...

    Brick Alternatives Please!

Interseting so I suppose it's a matter of taste then. My extension I had done in reclaimed brick that were old outbuildings that matched the house. The house has flush pointed lime mortar and I was going to match this but the brick layer didn't flush point to begin with and he noticed it did...

    Patio and Aco drain location?

Fair enough! I was looking at this thread https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/new-patio-where-to-lay-aco-drainage-channel.543724/ that is similar but the advice here looks like a single lenght of aco at the bottom of the garden. I was wondering if this will be sufficient for me or if because of...

    Patio and Aco drain location?

    Patio and Aco drain location?

I am just thinking is it a better job to put aco drain on all sides of the patio and cememnt /tuck them in to the sides with the sandstone? If I did this would I set the aco drain in when I do the wall foundation which I was going to have finish just before finish floor level and then brick up...

    Copper pipe run around pipes

Hi I am in the middle of a DIY UFH install. Pipes in and screed so now linking pipe work up. What's the best way to route pipes around the UFH pipes? I probably left them little long and bulky as I was paranoid about cutting too short. The pipes will come out of isolation valves along bottom...

    Extension lighting run

Yes I had though of this but thought it might get busy in the switches if the finishes article had two way switching in this room as it's quite large also meaning three core etc?

    Extension lighting run

That's exactly what I was thinking of doing. I will obviously leave PB off until it's been given the OK inspected etc just seemed sensible to use this space and it's sturdy to get clips, galv straps and whatever else is needed. Yeah roof a bit higher than yours but principle is the same.

    Extension lighting run

Twin and earth is what I have and what I will use. I hadn't really thought about the semantics about what constitutes permanent and temporary cables. If the cables I use isn't installed correctly then it can be discarded and a new lengths of cable used. I'm not going worry about it. I just...
