Pier design and tie-in to support 10.2m steel ridge beam for roof

If the steels are 5m long and the building is 5.5m wide the could you not put them in flat through an opening, put the telehandler over the top of the walls and use a rope or block to lift the steel? Otherwise the vertical steels could be made in two shorter pieces and bolted together. Random...

Once a wall/ceiling is mouldy, can you really treat it?

Zinsser permawhite is guaranteed mould free for seven years. Comes in a Matt white finish and can be tinted for walls. Long term agreed you will need to go back to bare brick and insulate internally. I think something like 50mm insulated plasterboard would make a massive difference.

    Wave Curtains

Hi You will need to mount the track about 100mm away from the coving depending on the profile, but apart from that it should be fine.

    Brass tap for oak barrel

This one might be better as it's longer: https://www.plumbers-mate-sales.co.uk/kuterlite-15mm-x-12-long-tail-male-iron-tank-connector---2442150w-5016-p.asp

    Brass tap for oak barrel

If long enough I would be thinking of a tank connector: https://www.screwfix.com/p/flomasta-compression-tank-connector-22mm/36982?tc=CT5&gad_source=1&gclsrc=ds With a bush or socket outside the barrell: https://www.screwfix.com/p/flomasta-bush-3-4-x-1-2-/98427...

    Hide a forum

Hi Is it possible to hide a forum from "new posts" and ideally completely? There is an option to do this for the combustion chamber but not others. I would like to come and learn about DIY and help others and the top posts always seem to be the general bigotry and trolling in General...

    Yes that's a haunching.

    Edging needed for this patio?

@freddiemercurystwin instead of an edging couldn't the slabs be haunched in? That's what I've done with block paving.

    Road saws

Hi I need to cut approx 12m of tarmac to pour a slab. A Stihl saw is £40 for a day's hire whereas a road saw is £60 and cuts deeper to 150mm. Seems a sensible idea and saves the old back. Any thoughts or tips? The saw is a "one side only" which means one way I'll have to push up hill for one...

    Fan assistance for radiators.

The difference is the delta T. The difference between the heat emitter temperature and the room temperature. For an electric element the dT is several hundred degrees so regardless of a fan the element will kick out the 1kw. For a radiator or wet kickboard heater the dT will be 20-40 degrees...

    Identify this TRV

Hi, can anyone identify this TRV and what size allen key it uses? A 2mm spins and a 2.5mm doesn't fit. The rad isn't working and I'm trying to find the blockage. Normally I'd start by checking the TRV pin but I can't get the head off. If I need to replace, any suggestions on a straight TRV...

    Telecom wireless bell batteries

I've had the same problem with various ricochet bits like the shocks. Seems to have got better since they replaced all my shocks under the recall but maybe the bell is still on old firmware.

    Telecom wireless bell batteries

Thanks, it's the Texecom Oddessey bell so a single set of 8xAA for everything. Yes good point, I set bell omit in master user mode so next time I should use engineer to avoid the tamper.

    Cavity wall insulation requirements

Interestingly @noseall my builder has proposed 90mm T&G celotex in a 100mm cavity. Says he does it all the time and can mantain a clear cavity - reckons the snots on the outside skin won't be a problem. https://www.insulationshop.co/90mm_celotex_thermaclass_cavity_wall_21.html

    Telecom wireless bell batteries

So an update for anyone who needs to do this... When I put the new batteries in (wearing ear defenders lol) the box tamper was activated and the internal sounder sounded, but not the external one. Strangely the box stayed in tamper even when I armed and disarmed the alarm. I ran a bell test...

    Telecom wireless bell batteries

Hello Telecom Premier Elite with a wireless bell. Batteries are around five years old so have had a good run! No low battery alarm but went straight to supervision fault and I suspect the batteries. I have 8xlithium AAs. As there is a supervision fault I can try the bell disable by pressing...

    Boiler maintenance, with minimal use?

My Worcester has an an anti seize cycle that runs the boiler for a short period daily if it hasn't been used. So I would put on heating for 20 daily and then hot water for 20 daily to cycle the diverter too.

Most economical way to heat a house

Assuming you have a condensing boiler (one less than about 20 years old) then the lower the flow temperature the more efficient the boiler.
