Lay parquet floor on hardboard as tiles/planks?

I have had to lift some 5 finger parquet floor to allow underfloor access (Gas pipe and pesky sleeper walls with no access holes...) and I guess I might need to lift it again in the future. To get it up without damaging it we had to start at the edge and lift quite a bit -in the end we just took...

Replacing a bathroom fan....what to get.

I do mainly have LEDs now - as the CFLs die I put in LEDs. But still - it would better if they weren't leaving lights on. If only it was that simple. Eldest has ADHD - I have to pick my battles and lower expectations- getting them to remember to do their coursework or have a battle about...

Replacing a bathroom fan....what to get.

Don't think I can use one of the timer switches in the bathroom as the light is a pull cord one inside and I couldn't easily wire it up anywhere without moving wires - so chasing out or having surface wires... However I'd forgotten they exist (brought back memories of rented flats and bedisits...

Replacing a bathroom fan....what to get.

I agree to an extent - and in this case that is probably true. But the bathroom could do with a complete refurbishment - so in 3 years might be looking for a new one anyway. And in general... sadly I don't think buying quality to last is always a good idea these days with technology etc moving...

Replacing a bathroom fan....what to get.

That does look nice - but more than I want to spend at the moment. Also I need a square one really as that is what the current one is and some trim on the edge of the ceiling has been cut out slightly for it to fit - it is (probably too) close to the ceiling. Trying to get away with doing...

Replacing a bathroom fan....what to get.

Would love something like that - but I want to spend as little as possible ...a gravity flap grill is £2 ish (and a basic timer fan -if that will be good enough - about £15) ... With a back draught shutter on the current fan was ok - apart from when the shutter banged or occasionally got...

Replacing a bathroom fan....what to get.

Getting myself confused! Want to replace a bathroom fan - it is Zone 3 and 240v. It comes on with the light switch but there is also a separate isolator pull switch in the bathroom. It stays on for a while after you turn the lights off so has a timer. Bathroom has a window but it is still a...

How to make a fixed elbow point in direction you want...

I have PTFE tape but the Loctitie 55 cord looks better ... the 577 stuff I think is a lot of money for what I need ... So basically I just screw it up as far as I need and if it is a bit loose the 55 cord will seal it up? There was a lot of PTFE tape on it before I took it apart but the person...

How to make a fixed elbow point in direction you want...

I think there must be a trick to do this? I have a concealed shower valve that I had to disconnect (cartridge had seized and needed to put it in a vice to get it free) It has two elbows - a female x compression for the cold feed and output (hot feed is straight) and a male x compression elbow...

Replacing Halogen bulbs with LEDs - best way of doing it?

Right a couple of photos - not the best -it is tricky to get up there -had to stand on the kitchen worktop as ladder wouldn't go close enough (ad realised it is quite dirty up there  ). There is more spare cable/wires than I remember. ...I knew there was enough left to put them both sets...

Replacing Halogen bulbs with LEDs - best way of doing it?

I'm going to rise to it ...13amp sockets on a lighting circuit ...these are on top of the kitchen top cupboards -extra high ones... about 2 inches from the ceiling and not visible unless you are on a ladder. They were installed as part of a whole kitchen rewire. There are multiple 13amp sockets...

Replacing Halogen bulbs with LEDs - best way of doing it?

Sorry for slow reply - had to go out and got held up ... They came either as individual lights or in a 3 pack -individual lights had a transformer plug, three pack came with a plug in transformer/connector unit that had terminals to connect 6 lights inside. The transformer has a 3 pin plug...

Replacing Halogen bulbs with LEDs - best way of doing it?

These are under cupboard /counter kitchen 'puck' lights from IKEA (Grundtal) that use 10w halogen G4 bulbs. I have 6 pucks - split into 2 lots of 3. Each lot of 3 is wired directly into one transformer (from ikea) - they have individual connectors for each wire that sits on top of the...

Bosch condenser dryer - remove rear fan?

Replying to myself in case anyone else has the same problem . After lots of internet searching I found a similar idea...basically you don't need a screw driver at all - the fan screws off the spindle rather than it slotting on and using some kind of screw to keep it in place. (And I found that...

Bosch condenser dryer - remove rear fan?

This is a WTE84307GB/13 - I am currently giving it a good clean up as it has been not working very well. Inside was grim! I have cleaned out the sump/pump and the hoovered it out in side above the motor etc . Have removed the cover and cleaned up the front fan. Removed the back panel and...

    Miele condensing tumble dryer overheating

Ok I only know from playing with my Bosch condenser dryer. But the pump is likely to be in the bottom -underneath the water collector/behind the condenser. In bosch there is a 'secret' compartment under the condenser unit that collects dust and water . I would take the side panel on the...

Dismantle Ikea Loviken tap to clean/replace valve

Just seen this - I was the person in thread linked to... So I'll update here for anyone else having problems with Loviken taps. I got the new cartridges, got them fitted then a month or so later started having problems with the handle spinning on the spline - seems that all the...

Mira Extra Mixer bath shower dribbling...

Sorry just trying to get it clear in my head It has a separate shower valve and that is the part that has had replacement seals (reviver kit I guess) - the shower bit is controlled by one knob - turns the shower on and controls the temperature. The taps themselves appear just to control the...

Mira Extra Mixer bath shower dribbling...

This is for a friend so if you need more info it might take me longer to find out... They have this shower and the shower head keeps dribbling when turned off. I have a different type of Mira shower (not a bath mixer one) and had a similar problem that was solved with a replacement seal kit. So...

Bosch Condenser Dryer "Clean Container" (secret flap door)

That's interesting Supahcupah... I removed a blockage from my Bosch Exxcel dishwasher (I guess 7 or so yrs old) a wee while ago - it was really quite straightforward. For a start easy to check the pump is clear -undo one screw from inside - but if it is something else (mine was the 'water intake...
