Always try to buy genuine or equivalent for sensors like these or you could end up chasing your tail with faults. I would use an electrical cleaner spray for cleaning, something that leaves no residue.

The white plastic part in the first photo pushes on to the black connector pipe, i would guess the o ring sits on the black connector pipe but i cant quite remember.
