I'm refering to the companies that check hpi etc when you are buying a car. Just wondered if anyone has a particular one that they like.

Ok thanks everyone. I've looked at a few sites. I think buying a package where you get a few Searches is the way to go.

I have tried the Carfax one but for £3.99 it only gave a small amount of things that I already knew. I'm trying to get the written service history of my present vehicle, a Citroen C4 Spacetourer. I bought it second hand online from a Citroen dealer in Preston and I am 250 miles away from Preston. It is an ex mobility vehicle so I know that it has been serviced and I do have all the stamps up to date in the service book. I have contacted the original dealer who sent me a load of bumf but no service history. I also went to my local Citroen dealer who looked but couldn't bring anything up although I think that was a half hearted look. Citroen also have a web site and an app that are supposed to tell you everything about your car but neither of them work although they both do recognise my vehicle. My local dealer says not to worry about it as long as the service book is up to date which is true but I know that if I came to sell the car privately a buyer would want reams of paperwork including the service history paperwork. I did get the vehicle serviced by my local Citroen dealer just after I bought the car and I have a receipt for the service that includes everything they did, the spares they used and the price. That is the sort of thing I am looking for for the previous services.

I was very reluctant to pay the higher fees to Carfax without knowing exactly what I would be getting for my money. The highest fee they do is £79 but they don't say what information they will pass on for that money.

Having the service book stamped and up to date is all that is needed...

I know of someone who took a golf to VW for a service and the printed off all past services. Maybe Citroen aren't much good at this or maybe another branch could come up trumps.

I use vcheck, it saved me a few months back when it flagged a write off. I was a bit too trusting of the seller and it was a car that came up via an owners club (Porsche Cayman).
The good thing is that it shows photos of the vehicle damage too.
Car vertical is another i have used, they are very similar though but these 2 are often recommended on multiple car forums im involved in.

Do you remember how much you paid? I looked at vertical the other day but suspect I misunderstood the pricing because it was so much.

vcheck was £6.00 i think, not sure about car vertical. If you have a look at a you tube channel called high peak autos he regularly has money off deals for car vertical as they sponsor his channel.

I watched his video on an old police Volvo the other day. He gets 20 percent off. When I looked I thought it said about£40 for one search. I'm hoping I misunderstood.
