    * Resolved * Air in the central heating system

@muggles If this time comes, is there a superior magnetic filter you'd recommend. There was limited choice at time of purchase, the effort to took to fit it I'd be keen not to repeat if indeed a replacement was required. Can't complain, it's done the job fairly well. But I've no experience of...

    * Resolved * Air in the central heating system

May now refit one on the manual bleed valve types to the Fernox F1 magnetic cleaner as still unsure of the suitability of auto vent value on this unit even though it appears to be working just fine. Did message Fernox some weeks ago to ask them if how I intended to proceed was a viable option...

    * Resolved * Air in the central heating system

Feel compelled to post this as this issue has been the bane of my life for last month. Finally this evening discovered the problem. Searching various forums it appears many people have similar issues, this is how resolved mine / something easily ruled out. Problem - Closed loop system...

    Slightly raised boiler pressure

Apologies, hot water system the boiler feeds is open vented. Heating system is closed loop.

    Slightly raised boiler pressure

Recently drained the CH system completely to replace numerous faulty TRV and several radiators in our Victorian property. Nine radiators of varying sizes powered by a Worcester Greenstar 24i Junior (open vented system). Refilled the system (included significantly more inhibitor than...

Worcester Greenstar 24I System NG Part Issue

Thank you once again for your response. The picture below shows it seems to be the bottle type trap Syphon by Poisonata posted 29 Oct 2020 at 7:47 PM hence my initial thoughts regarding the later model of heat exchanger (according to the serial FD number) with the new sump appear to be...

Worcester Greenstar 24I System NG Part Issue

So the damage was originally ribbed effect, he acknowledged this was fairly common. But now a small split has appeared in the casing at the top with evidence of leakage albeit minor. I've observed this while he had the cover off, it's fairly apparent the heat exchanger has seen better days...

Worcester Greenstar 24I System NG Part Issue

2 by Poisonata posted 28 Oct 2020 at 8:44 PM Our boiler (see above picture) which I've identified using the GC Nr needs a new main heat exchanger. Advised by heating engineer, excess heat over time has caused damage to the outer aluminium case. I'm assembling all the relevant parts he...

    Worcester Greenstar 24i Heating Issue

Follow up - Drayton Synch Motor purchased from Screwfix (see above for picture). Fitting took approximately 30 minutes, very easy. Only difficultly was access as it's in a tight space. Working a treat. Thank you so much @Gasguru for correct diagnosis. Never the repair that's the issue, it's the...

    Worcester Greenstar 24i Heating Issue

That's good to know. Screwfix is only round the corner / got them in stock. Capture by Poisonata posted 6 Sep 2020 at 10:18 PM Lockdown (n) I work for the NHS, it's been very much business as usual. Slightly galling when everyone else seems to have had the whole summer off paid :( Maybe not a...

    Worcester Greenstar 24i Heating Issue

A little further reading it seems for ease (avoid draining the whole system down / replacing the valve assembly which doesn't appear faulty) a straight swap of the sychron motor is the best (cheapest / quickest) fix. Found one on Amazon that's suitable for a tenner. Even better :)

    Worcester Greenstar 24i Heating Issue

Thank you so much. And you are spot on. Removed the housing from the zone value. It appears to make contact with the microswitch but does not depress it. A quick nudge with a screwdriver to fully open the value and the boiler fired up. So I'm off to get a replacement V4043H1056 Honeywell...

    Worcester Greenstar 24i Heating Issue

Worcester Greenstar 24i Condensing boiler (see pic 1) approx. 10 years old. Normally most boiler problems resolved myself, this however has me stumped. One by Poisonata posted 6 Sep 2020 at 5:20 PM Boiler appears to be working fine. The Honeywell controller (see pic 2) successfully activates...

Saunier Duval moves between 0.5 and 2.6 bar!

P.S. Do not be tempted to find the first valve that resembles a car tyre valve & start pumping air into it. Make sure it's the one directly connected to the expansion vessel. Else you may end up blowing air into the boiler auto bleed valve.

Saunier Duval moves between 0.5 and 2.6 bar!

As Ian correctly stated sounds highly suspicious of the expansion vessel. Either needs re pressurising or the internal bladder has breached / needs replacing. To re pressurise locate the expansion vessel (fairly large, round, relatively flat (but not always)) normally situated at the rear of the...

    Losing pressure, and patience

The PRV (pressure release valve) is worth checking. If at any time it was activated during the install, sludge/metal sloughing from slowly corroding radiators can stick to the rubber washer and it fails to reseal perfectly. Where the PRV overflow exits your attic to the outside of your property...

    110 mm Soil Pipe Separation

Two lengths of 110 mm pipe in my loft (see photo of exact pipe) used as ducting for bathroom fan > outside. Simply push fitted together. Pulling/twisting them apart is proving tricky as the rubber internal gasket at the join is obviously doing its job well. Any thoughts on how this can be...
