    Extreme limescale in shower bar

It looks like the classic baffle problem. Do a forum search snd you'll find numerous postings going back 6 or 7 years showing pics.

    thermal goo

Given the lack of screws on those FETS it does look like a simple mechanical bonding rather than proper heatsinking. Use Dowsil 744, it's an electronics grade silicon that only releases non corrosive alcohol solvents during cure...

    Chimney Pots and Cowls

What are building control charging you to get the install/flue work checked and signed off by a Hetas installer, although any installer is mad to sign off others work (when they can't really see properly whats been done), in the gas trade it's banned. This could all come back when you sell the...

    Chimney Pots and Cowls

Normally any flue work either remedial or new is notifiable work to the local authority under the building regs. You must be either Gas-Safe or Hetas registered to self certify your work. A roofer (or builder) will not have the knowledge or qualifications to do so...and the qualifty of the...

Compression fittings with no play in pipes

Google compression slip coupling...these fittings don't have a centre stop. The longer version is sold as a repair coupling.

Greenstar 24ri - large temperature drop before re-fire

You shouldn't need to run the pump on speed 3 especially since the boiler is designed to run with a more favourable 15 to 20 degree drop. Since the the heating side appears to function as expected (although it is only really tested when outside temperatures are down to zero) I wonder if the...

Greenstar 24ri - large temperature drop before re-fire

Is this an old cylinder with the primary coil designed for gravity circulation from the boiler? With 28mm primaries it would suggest so.

Fitting PRV on cold water bathroom pipe

Connect your bathroom feed etc. to that capped 22mm pipe on the pressure reducing valve. Has the installer filled in the benchmark logbook and notified the install? You should get a building regs. compliance certificate. Pipework should be lagged...where's the expansion vessel?

Can you have a look at my lawnmower engine?

Have a look at this Quantum engine throttle plate...looks like you've bent the the spring pivot...

    Vaillant Turbomax 282e diaphragm

There are a few other boiler checks that need looking at including airflow..and unfortunately it's beyond diy.

    Broken connector

It looks like a dual coaxial cable...even if you could locate a connector you have no means to replace it. Is it even likely to come apart?

    Vaillant Turbomax 282e diaphragm

The kit doesn't contain all the o rings you need afair...too long ago to remember which ones. You might have to chance reusing a few seals. Be ultra carefull fitting the correct screws back onto the pump..it's possible to get them mixed up and piece a pipe behind. Replace the air vent on the...

    Vaillant Turbomax 282e diaphragm

The problem with all the repair kits is that you don't get all the parts included. eg. the white sprung valve (I've had several that break up).

    Vaillant Turbomax 282e diaphragm

Unfortunately that rarely sorts out the issue in my experience... The plastic lever that operates the microswitch can go weak. The top section (that diverts primary water) can partially seize. Behind the large brass hex plug in the lower section is a plastic spring valve arrangement...these can...

Approximate cost for a fixer upper

What's the tenure...because it's critical to the eventual value and the majority of rough properties I've seen in London have so many legal issues they're a non starter.

    Vaillant Cracked Sump

I guess you'd really call it a manifold. It's the transition from the flow/return pipework to the tube bundles inside. Sometimes heavy handed repairs result in the pipe spigots cracking..I'm not aware of cracking in that area bit others may have seen it. Not repairable so new heat...

Mountfield HP470 power varying after servicing

What petrol are you running it on? Is it old and contaminated? My 30 year old Hayter with a Briggs engine refused run on the new E10..it would gradually reduce revs and die under load. Running with 99 octane and it was instantly back to normal. (AFAIK has only 5% or no ethanol).

Artex, how to identify possible asbestos

In the past I've used Square Root..they used to send you a test kit for sending them a sample. Not sure if they're still trading.. http://www.asbestostestingsource.com/testing-labs-uk/

    Regulating water temperature

Fit TMV2 compliant mixer valves to the hot outlets but you MUST comply with the install instructions to be effective. Make sure they are easy to remove/service.

    SMPS

We bought the cheap Zoyi ZT-702S to trial for our service agents. Once I got to 10 bugs I gave up testing it. Single trigger mode is particularly hopeless (IMHO they just gave up the development). This was an essential feature we required to check startup current waveforms. If you're...
