Polyplumb under the floor when installing c/h

Good practice is to mark the pipe with the socket depth so you know that the pipe is fully home then pull back on the pipe to ensure the teeth bite, in reality this doesn’t happen. You can always double check by pushing on the pipe to see if there is any movement but if in full socket you should...

Polyplumb under the floor when installing c/h

The reason polypipe say 18 bar for polyplumb is that is an “O” ring first fitting, this means that when the pipe is inserted into the fitting it passes through the “O” ring first then the “grab ring” second. If not fully inserted the “O” ring can hold the pipe when the pressure is increased even...

    Speedfit BPEX or Speedfit Polybutylene

Both the Speedfit offerings that the OP was looking at are Barrier pipe, he was asking the differences between them which have been pointed out, so with them both being barrier that wasn’t one of the differences. You are correct in saying that Barrier pipe should be used on central heating pipe...

    Speedfit BPEX or Speedfit Polybutylene

They are two completely different types of plastic and you can use either. The PEX pipe is far more rigid and if using from a coil it can be difficult to use as it always wants to return to its coiled state. Polybutylene is far more flexible and the “Layflat” is much easier to uncoil and use...

    Boiler condensate pipe connection

The soil pipe is also the vent pipe (normally) so won’t have a trap on it. It will vent to atmosphere above highest window level. (Some May have a durgo valve in the roof space. All appliances, WC’s etc entering the soil pipe will be trapped to prevent any foul air escaping into the property...

    Boiler condensate pipe connection

Check that the black flexible hose going into the HepVo valve isn’t too long, if it is it could hold the membrane open and allow smell through.

    Early plastic pipe

Acorn was originally brown (Before it became Hepworth) but was polybutylene and Push Fit, this stuff is more rigid and doesn’t age well.

    Early plastic pipe

Some of the old solvent weld plastic becomes so brittle you’d be better off ripping it all out and replacing with copper or Hep2o. Once you start disturbing it you can open a real can of worms. I recall a whole estate in Runcorn had it all replaced because of problems.

Removing brass olive from shower solenoid valve

I think it’s because plastic is an oil based product, some jointing compounds are oil based therefore could degrade the plastic pipe. For the same reason they say not to use oil based paints if you paint the pipes.

Removing brass olive from shower solenoid valve

Plastic pipe manufacturers say not to use and type of jointing compounds, copper olive with PTFE tape if required. Check if ok to use on plastic.

    The end of gas boilers....

Potentially, the government stand to lose around £28b per year in fuel duty when petrol and diesel cars disappear from the UK’s roads. No real comment from them as to how they are going to recover this money, can’t really increase the electricity tariffs across the board as non car owners would...

    The end of gas boilers....

All these figures that the vehicle manufacturers are quoting will be under laboratory conditions, not when your crawling in traffic with your lights, wipers, heated screen, heater, radio etc on. As previously said, the infrastructure needed to go 100% electric, not just the physical charging...

    Alarm control panel in garage

Most garages will be fine, damp and rodents are your main worries. If garage is joined to your house then the adjoining wall would be preferable to an outside one.

    hikvision dvr in loft..

Mine is in the loft, mounted approx 1 mtr off the floor in a metal box with twin fans ducted to outside, been up there for over 3 years without problem. When I installed it I ran a HDMI cable along with 2 USB cables (one from the front and one from the rear of the DVR) to the room below that I...

Help please - Texecom Veritas Excel Panel Instal

Check the obvious first, make sure lids on keypads, PIR’s and panel are all seated correctly. You say that you have used 4 core cable for keypads and detectors, have you wired the detectors as EOL or Global tamper (you would need 6 core for Global) assuming the detectors are PIR’s and not just...

    Whats this make of fitting

They use a “M” ring rather than an “O” ring, once they have been depressurised / demounted then struggle to seal again. You can buy a Demounting tool, bit like a circlip spanner, but better cutting it out and using either Hep2o or compression fittings is the way to go.

Push Fit or not and how to get it off

Osma Gold used a “M” ring instead of an “O” ring once depressurised and demounted they were prone to leaking. Best advice is to cut them out and replace.

Compression fitting tightness on plastic pipe?

Copper olives and a wrap or 3 of PTFE tape if required, you should keep jointing paste or any oil based products well away from plastic pipes / fittings.
