IMO Restore splitting the vote and Burnham winning could be the best possible outcome for Reform and the UK. This way Restore voters get to see the consequences of their actions. Vote Restore, get communists. Hopefully Reform and Restore will settle their differences though. Currently...

    The Environment.

Rubbish. Rivers need to flow. Flow can be deliberately reduced where there are floodplains that you're happy to sacrifice. In this case the water was backing up from the bridge into homes upstream of it. That Mail article is (surprisingly) informative. There are some very good points in it...

"The Independent" is a lie in itself. It's the Guardian mk2 these days. Yourr interpretation of the article is utter nonsense, you've written things that are deliberately misleading. His views and previous statements make complete sense, unless you're a lefty crackpot who's itching to find...

    Building on sand

Are you sure? I've looked for guides but keep finding pages where the author seems to have muddled/blurred PP and BC together into one confusing mess. Edit: Yes, it's 10 years...

    Building on sand

The topsoil is about 800mm deep, it's unusually deep, jet black sandy topsoil all the way. Would a raft need to be entirely down to below this depth? If so then what would make the floor back up to ground level?

    Building on sand

Thanks all, I'm designing it. I know the sand's about 0.8m down, so I've drawn it as 1.1m deep. It's detached from the home. The home appears to be built on a strip foundation, on the sand. It's 70 years old and seems OK-ish. Some historic shrinkage movement here and there, but it's a...

Perfect, another Manchester import. The locals will say to hell with her and Burnham. They're not Manchester, and are very proud to not be. Good that Green are running. There were rumours they were going to stand aside to give Labour all the crackhead/doley/do-gooder votes. Let's see how...

House price gravy train may have hit the buffers

That applies to a lot of people of all ages, I know people way over 50 who spend money like it's a requirement to get rid of the stuff every month. But it's probably the result of consumerism and house-buying being an unachievable goal. If you're going to be a renter for life then you might as...

    Building on sand

I'm planning a garage, which will need planning permission. This is new territory for me. We have sandy topsoil, on top of sand - it's like a bright yellow beach when you get about 1m down. We've been down to 3m before while doing the sewage system, we only encountered the odd lump of clay...

How many newly-elected reformists have been suspended or ejected so far?

He's not a bad apple, he's just an ordinary bloke who's describing reality. The public prefer edgy to someone spouting woke nonsense. They'll vote him in, whether the rest like it or not. Democracy knows best.

House price gravy train may have hit the buffers

I tried living within the M25 as an amibitious 20-odd year old. Tempted by a decent-ish salary, but soon concluded it was impossible to live there in decency. I was renting a room in an ex-council house, it was an utterly miserable existence. Soon learnt my lesson and got the hell out of...

The bond markets own us, we're right at at limit of debt. If he becomes PM, they'll erupt in ways that will make the Truss episode look like a warm-up.

The infamous "FOR"+ manufacturer + part

That's just a fake, not an equivalent. I've bought things like this, knowing it's non-genuine. You may find that if you order one then in fact the pack has a Shimano logo on, it's just been edited out of the photo.

    Is this pointing job reasonable?

Spot on. I had our last house done, someone good at it can make a load of old rubbish look newly built, as they did with ours. The key is using a straight edge, rather than following the bricks. Put up with what you've had done, find someone else to do the front.
