Advice required for boarding out a loft (with down-lights)

:) - It certainly would be! So it sounds like I am going around this the right way. I just need to get some fairly long screws to go through the 63mm length.

Advice required for boarding out a loft (with down-lights)

Hi all, I am currently planning out the boarding/insulating of my loft. We have downlights in a couple of the bedrooms so I want to make sure everything is safe with regards to keeping them away from the insulation. My joists are 35mm wide and 90mm high - the spotlights stick out about...

Best way to block up a chimney?

To be honest I was standing by the fireplace earlier, the wind was howling and it was pretty noisy but I dont think much of a draught was actually coming down the chimney. Its more noisy than anything else. Following the advice in this thread and my own thoughts I think my plan will be as...

Best way to block up a chimney?

So if I just cut a piece of wood to a suitable size to block the chimney and then cut a hole in the middle and fitted one of these...

Best way to block up a chimney?

Hi all, We recently had an old gas fire removed and the chimney opened up. We now just have an open fireplace which we have tiled and plan to just keep a few big candles etc in. I couldn’t decide whether to block off the chimney or just leave it open. However, the noisy wind and the old...

Central Heating drained now boiler only produced HW (not CH)

Can I edit the title? I meant to say "producing", not "produced". The more I read, the more it seems likely that I might have air in the pump. I will try bleeding it when I get home this afternoon.

Central Heating drained now boiler only produced HW (not CH)

Hi all, Mr father-in-law is currently helping me with some work in the house. We have removed some old redundant pipe to a radiator which no longer exists and also replaced the mains stop cock and removed a sure-stop (electronic stop-cock button) which I did not trust. As part of the work the...

Bathroom installer cock up? Shower pump plumbed into mains

Thank you guys. It doesnt fill you with confidence does it. Can anyone point me in the direction of the water regs so that I can quote it? Thanks Oh, and I just went online and printed the intstruction guide for the pump which says in big bold letters: THIS PUMP MUST NOT BE CONNECTED TO THE...

Bathroom installer cock up? Shower pump plumbed into mains

Hi all, We had a new bathroom fitted about 6 months ago. The company who did the work sent a bathroom fitter who had spent most of his life living and working in the Netherlands. He was a brilliant tiler and meticulous in his work (the job took 4 weeks instead of the quoted 2 weeks!) but we...

Remeha Avanta boiler - pressure quickly goes from very low to very high

Just to confirm that the expansion vessel was completely empty of air as suspected. I drained the boiler last night, refilled the expansion vessel to 1bar (as per the instruction manual) and refilled the boiler via the filling loop. The system performed much better (radiators were getting nice...

Remeha Avanta boiler - pressure quickly goes from very low to very high

Hi everyone, I had my bathroom suite replaced over the summer, including a new bath, shower, pump etc etc. Since the work had been completed I had noticed that the pressure in my Remeha Aventa condensing boiler seems to go from very low (less than 0.5 bar) to very high (~2.5 bar) quite...

    Stickers on doors..good tip

Thats a good tip regarding WD40. However, the best product I have ever used for getting rid of sticky residue such as this is 'Goo-Gone'. I bought a bottle from eBay years ago (I only use a tiny bit each time) and its been great at removing stickers etc.

A couple of questions about cleaning and sealing tiles.

I think I have managed to find the manufacturer! http://www.iberoceramica.com/detalle-serie.php?catalogo=1&tipo=1&serie=6&formato=0 On the spec sheet it has some information about cleaning (highly diluted acid solution - so the distilled white vinegar sounds promising). No information...

A couple of questions about cleaning and sealing tiles.

Hi all, We recently had our bathroom done. The installer has finished up and gone back to Holland (dont ask!). We have been left with a couple of unresolved issues regarding the wall tiles. The tiles we chose are a rough surfaced slate effect porcelain tile (see here...

Hi, In the end I replaced the PRV and that seemed to solve the problem. It seemed that it was...

Hi, In the end I replaced the PRV and that seemed to solve the problem. It seemed that it was clogged up with black gunk (which was also the same problem with the pressure gauge) and this was preventing it from functioning correctly. After replacing the PRV, all was good. I treated the...

Remeha Avanta boiler losing pressure - what to try next ?

Hi Micky, Thanks for the feedback. It only seemed to leak when I upped the pressure to over 3bar (it has not leaked before that). You are probably right about not over pressurising the system, but I just wanted to check what would happen when I went over the 3bar limit that the PRV is...
