Leaking toilet soil pipe when going into internal wall :(

small holes are ok in iweb joist, look on manufacturers sites for exact limits to where and sizes. Must be worth a very carefully drilled hole there to have a closer look.

    Decorative chippings straight onto rubble?

A deep infill of rubble will take a long time to fully settle, there will be air gaps scattered through it for many years, so allow for regular infill until it fully stabilises.

Removing black grease from a duvet

The bagging of waste wet is only really needed for linseed oil etc, grease is just a true soap and a heavy mineral oil mixed together.

Recommend me a 35mm to 42mm plastic pipe cutter

The getting started problem is having to pull the blades open by hand even before trying to cut the pipe, then trying to get the ratchet mechanism to engage, I think it might be missing something and not prepared to put up with it any more.

Recommend me a 35mm to 42mm plastic pipe cutter

I also bought one of those a week ago, used it twice and it is going back. Impossible to get started, but mine does give a clean cut at least.

unfortunately yes, because it has to line up with the other piece

Wood worktop problems, split at one end.

Well they actually replaced the top instead of repairing it, so it had ended ok I guess. Still need to go through coating the new top and hope this does not happen again. I suppose the pocket needs a flatter edge towards the join to reduce the opening force applied to the join after it is...

Patio repointing, what's the best option?

wet and pushed in is much better, the paving expert site says to make it stiff enough not to stain your hands when you squeeze a small lump. brushed in dry ends up much softer, I didpart of my patio steps with brushed and it has failed much quicker than the rest that is still strong.

Wood worktop problems, split at one end.

The worktop was cut by them, I asked for 4 slots as the top was the 72cm front to back and needs more clamping force, they gave me three, and the clamps have not yet been tightened. I needed access to things and was not ready to do it straight away, the day job keeps me quite busy really.

Wood worktop problems, split at one end.

Well they relented and have now taken it for repair, I know wood is a natural material and moves, but this was well sealed, kept dry and has still split, so that end of the log must have been wetter than the rest. With a home repair, with an 80mm split in a piece of wood 720mm wide, I would not...

Buying advice - multitool, random orbital sander and router

Yup, and if cordless you usually do not get charger, batteries and tool on sale at the same time!, but decent quality, proper LG batteries etc. I went for the aldi versions as they were available sooner when I started looking.

Neighbour wants to use vent stack for new bathroom

It looks to me as if it is on your side of the party wall, but only just. It might be shared, who installed it? was there some of the pipe there before you started your roof extension?

Dow corning MS4 is a silicone grease, more usually used on vacuum gear, but perfectly fine for plumbing.

Wood worktop problems, split at one end.

I have a full stave solid wood worktop, it was designed to be an L shape, so a breakfast bar stub and a longer worktop against wall. It was fully sealed and made shiny with osmo top oil top and bottom. It was then laid flat on the final resting place where it will be screwed down later. I was...

    Floating shelves avice needed

Just use a metal drill bit to get final size, it is only going to remove 0.1 or so, wont harm the wood or the drill. Mechanics jobbing drill in small increments wont be as expensive as the wood ones.

    Worktop osmo oil issues

According to Osmo themselves, https://osmouk.com/product/topoil/#instructions look at the instructions tab, 120 for oak or beech, 150 for pine, and 240 as the finest grade to use for just before the application.

    Worktop osmo oil issues

Look on the osmo site for instructions, use the right medium grade of sandpaper to take off the high spots. It needs a certain amount of roughness to allow the oil to key in properly. It does need many thin coats. I used a squeegy to do mine. Dont forget to use fine sandpaper between coats to...

Where to buy really small water resistant screws?

As JohnD says, the cheapest ebay etc "stainless" screws arent stainless at all, the marine grade ones stand a chance of not rusting. I bought some "stainless steel" wirewool for outside use to stop mice entering, it rusted in about 2 days... so got a refund.
