    Precast and PreStressed Concrete Lintels

Because they are not post-stressed? Because pre-compressed does not sound as catchy?

    Precast and PreStressed Concrete Lintels

The "stressing" is purely because of the camber of the lintel or beam. A flat lintel is not under any stress at all, and neither is a bit of metal that is set in concrete in a curve shape - which is not the way these things are made anyway!

    Missing bricks under chimney stack

If you've scraped that soil out for no reason, best stop, refill the hole with concrete and then finish what you are doing around the walls.

    "Superglue" as wood hardener

I think I've seen all the tiktok and insta videos of this wonder-product use of CA glue and bicarb and cotton wool. As big-all says, it's very rigid, so the longer term use in timber and flexible plastic is questionable. But admittedly all the repairs look lovely in a 30 second video. As a...

Renewing flat roof window upstand felt roof

There is no flashing there. That upstand is non-standard and below the normal recommended height. You need to may sure that it's properly sealed especially from splashes

    Roof felt

That's from a survey isn't it? What did the report say. It does look like its been repaired or gone over the top with a new layer, but that is not an acceptable repair as it can cause condensation sweating between the layers. It's a cowboy job, so that raises questions about what its like on...

    Roof felt

A membrane is essential for interlocking tiles especially concrete, as they do let some water through. Older roofs with plain clay or slate did not need one.

    Roof spread

Horizontal cracking can be caused by roof spread, but it would be in a specific location and be of a specific style. So, not all horizontal cracking is a symptom, and stepped cracking tends to be some other cause.

    Driveway advice

For levels, what you should do is place a wooden stake at or close to each corner and mark a level line on this. This would be your fixed datum from which you measure down to your desired levels - finished level, hardcore level, excavation level etc. You would level from the highest point, or...

    Adding pillar support for RSJ

Whoever designed the beam should be designing the pier - if a pier is actually needed, and also be designing any step out in the foundation to accommodate the loading from any new pier. And there would normally be a padstone, again type and size (or alternative) would be designed. If you have...

    Lintels.....

There are two issues - first, that type of lintel is designed to be built in and gradually loaded by a few course which then should set before fully loading with the rest wall above. Second, a certain amount of wall is required on both leaves of the cavity and point loading can be an issue...

Renewing flat roof window upstand felt roof

Normally the roof has a structural upstand and then your rooflight and any upstand it comes with is fitted on the top or over the roof upstand The roof felt would [/should] continue up the structural upstand as one continuous layer. The new roof light and flashing/flashing fit over the top of...

level out sunk edges on flat roof

What we've done in the past is used Acylpol or similar product and also use a layer of flashband to build up low spots. None of the liquid products self-level, so when trying to increase depth to direct water, you need to be very careful that you are actually increasing the thickness in the...

    Half garage conversion

With conversions, there is scope to relax certain standards if it would be onerous and not cost-effective, or gains would be minimal. The argument is normally comparing the proposed converted room with the rest of the house, and would it be any worse. Life-safety standards (e.g. fire) or...
