    Dpf cleaning or buying

Its 2015 so the year before ad blue came in. So it is not rated that highly as as non polluting van. The data from the exhaust should be 0.7 i think. I have an average opacity of 1.18. He did it after the test as well to see if the engine being on would have lowered the value, but it went to...

    Dpf cleaning or buying

My van has failed again on its emissions. Done 78.5k miles. Citroen berlingo. I changed the oil this time before the test but it still failed. They recommend I have it cleaned. It’s £200 to have someone come out and regen it plus do an avid clean. Looking online I can buy a dpf for about...

Expansion vessel pressure v boiler pressure

Ok thanks. I am a little lost regarding filling the pressures. I have decided to buy a new EV so will get the engineer to fit it next week as I also want a service doing. I thought you do as you said - make sure all pressure is out of the boiler and then pump up the EV to about 1 bar. I just...

Expansion vessel pressure v boiler pressure

No the system was pressured normally at 1.4 bar. So do i need to drain the boiler down to find the correct pressure of the EV ?

Expansion vessel pressure v boiler pressure

Are the two pressures the same when the boiler is working normally ? I thought the expansion vessel pressure must be at around 1 bar and the boiler pressure might be say at 1.5 bar. I've just checked my EV and it is 1.4 Bar, the same as the boiler pressure. I recharged the vessell a few weeks...

Best combi to work on from a gas engineers point of view

I have seen inside quite a few combi's over the years. When ever i have an issue I always work alongside my engineer to try learn what the issue is. So I see how he changes the secondary heat exchangers , for example. I've removed my own secondary HE and cleaned it out. I have the vaillant...

Wife left top up valve open

Yes we have the boiler at the top of our semi (not flat but i was working on a high flat and might have posted about it). It is in the attic which is a converted bedroom. So from ground level it is up at 7-8m high. I might call valliant to check with them.

Wife left top up valve open

I showed my wife how to top up the pressure on the boiler. Vaillant eco plus 837 2008. She’s left it open for 2 hours. I’ve just sorted it and all back to normal. I don’t understand where the excess water has gone though. I have some water under the filter area under the boiler and that’s...

    Help undoing a shower nut

Success again. Managed to get my van box of nuts to just catch the nut. Didn’t need to buy a long nut wrench around 22mm. So it’s off and doesn’t look too bad. Do I clean it with vinegar? I will regressed the washers.

    Help undoing a shower nut

I want to remove the brass nut so I can clean my shower cartridge. It’s a brid tan valve from 2011. I’m using my big ratchet but the nut will not move. I don’t want to force it. Could I use silicone spray to help it? I tried putting some vinegar around the nut but no difference

    Hedge cutter carberetor issue

I got my carb and have fitted it this morning BUT the fuel valve is on the top side, not the bottom, so the fuel lines are stretched when in position and i am getting a leak. The throttle cable on the opposite side comes in through the bottom, but i have had to swap it around. I wonder if i...

    Hedge cutter carberetor issue

I’ve been told by the repair shop I need a new carburetor for my hedge cutter at £85 plus vat. It’s a case of just buying a new one instead, but I would prefer to clean the carb myself. Is it easy to do? It’s a mountfield hedge cutter so about £130 in screwfix new

    Replacing velux and plastering

I need to replace a velux, and will use the same size again. I need to remove the side reveals so wondered if anyone had any tips. Plan to multi tool around all the plaster board beading and then pull out the reveals. Then fit new velux, then fit new reveals and set in place new beads. So...

    Position of shower tray

My plan is to use a piece of glass on the side (1200 x 1900 got it for £40). Then just use a shower curtain at the opening fitted to the bar holding the glass in place. I think the tray is a fancy slate effect one and i got it for £10. So if i do it as planned, water could overflow where the...
