Hot water problems -boiling kitchen, luke warm bathroom

Can anyone explain this to me Worchester Bosch 35CDII combi boiler - about 10 years old. Had a few bits replaced in last year....(including a valve to heat exchanger (IIRC) and external expansion vessel)- settings will have been changed - I think maybe water feed pressure increased (we have v...

Advice needed on new extenison cable reel...how much choice?

Looking at screwfix ones and some of them have on/off switches on the reels - fantastic! Will have to have a closer look (was looking at toolstation)... Don't want one with a RCD plug - they are too big ...that's how I wrecked my outside socket in this house...I was trying to plug a circuit...

Advice needed on new extenison cable reel...how much choice?

Thanks -so looking at lots of reels online they don't say coiled/uncoiled - they say they have a maximum load of 3120 watts - so if I understand that means a 1600 watt hoover, 550w drill and 11 w bulb would be fine on one of these if fully uncoiled... but not coiled if can only take 10% load...

Advice needed on new extenison cable reel...how much choice?

Not sure if this shouldn't be in electrics but ... I had a good quality professional 40m one - old though so no thermal cut out. Someone (not me!) managed to overload it (an electric convector heater) -the coils all melted together.. :( Need a new one -with thermal cut out :) but got all...

    Loft boarding and celotex/kingspan

I know this has been covered a thousand times but have just read a couple of things that made me wonder if I can do what I planned to.... Current loft done on a grant with rockwool to current regs for previous OAP owners ...no boarded storage area. Want an easy solution ...so in central area I...

    Paint or replace doors?

Have a joiner lined up to fit the kitchen and a few other jobs - so got a kitchen quote from Howdens on his account...so I probably could get doors from Howdens through him... (I thought you were having a dig about why I posted on paint/decorate forum rather than windows and doors  -...

    Replacement windows, cost of?

Feeling a bit ripped off - I just paid £7k for 9 windows, one back door, side panels for front door and patio doors for our new house ...guess the patio doors were over £1k though... (did get 3 quotes -this was middle - top was £10k, lower 2 were within a few hundred of each other... all local...

    Paint or replace doors?

I don't think I want to spend too much on new doors at the moment - have children heading close to teenage years ...expecting door slamming, kicking etc as hormones fly (have memories of one of my then teenage brothers breaking the original, pre-Victorian, non-standard size door at my parent's...

    Paint or replace doors?

Thanks - when you can get ok-ish doors at less than £30 each....looks like replace might be best bet.... I have doors like this in current house (I painted for first time years ago -but pretty sure took a good few coats) and if children 'chip' them the dark brown shows through and they need...

    Paint or replace doors?

1970s doors, the thin board on a frame type. Quite dark varnish. 11 doors. One or two with small bashes/holes from hooks Five are being rehung (change the way they open into a room) Thinking of getting a decorator in (rather than do it myself - not finding time to do anything at moment and...

Can I remove this studwork or will it be supporting?

possibly ...not going to think about it ...but thanks for making me laugh! :D Sorry for slow reply ... The frame seems to be nailed to the block walls - the joists don't go into the wall...although on the equivalent bit under the stairs going up there isn't a similar support in the...

Can I remove this studwork or will it be supporting?

I shall check today .... I know in this house the joists run into the wall ... but not sure about there - the wall on either side of the stairs are brick/block so are supporting - (rest of internal walls are plasterboard...) (Was really surprised the floor was boarded - it must have been...

Can I remove this studwork or will it be supporting?

1970s house. Stairs are in two parts, with a half landing. Have an understair cupboard ideally I would like to extend under the half landing. Removed some plasterboard to find studwork blocking access....- see photo (floor underneath is boarded - so that's a positive) Is the stud work likely...
