Can't get new Cistern water tight!

I have tried to install this toilet but am struggling to get it water tight. The two screws which hold the cistern against the pan are the culprit. I keep tightening them but it's becoming more difficult to tighten them. I have been using a small spanner tighten the nut on the underside while...

Incorrect or correct diameter of screw?

The cistern rests on the toilet pan so should be supported there? Aren't the cistern screws at the back more to hold it in position than to provide support? I mean the cistern screws won't be taking any of the weight of the cistern?

Incorrect or correct diameter of screw?

Here is photo of 'shank end'? It's still looking like 4mm. Anyhow, I take your advice that the wall plug will take a 4.5mm screw even though the wall plugs came in a pack with 4mm screws (claiming to be 4.5mm).

Incorrect or correct diameter of screw?

Just for clarity, here is the unmarked and enlarged diagram of the screw in question, that claims to be 4.5mm but I measure (see photo above) to be 4mm.

Incorrect or correct diameter of screw?

I require to drill screws into wall board (to hold a cistern in place) and believe 4.5x40mm screws will be sufficient (with wall plugs). This is the screws and wall plugs I have. I draw your attention (circled in red) to the specified diameter of screw on the instructions of the pack. I...

Washers and caps for toilet installation

The pilot holes aren't big enough to take the plugs. The holes are only 3mm in diameter. So I shouldn't use wall plugs? What about just using 5x60mm screws to penetrate nearly 20mm into chipboard like these?

Washers and caps for toilet installation

I have drilled pilot holes in readiness for securing the toilet pan to the chipboard flooring (22 mm thick). I am concerned of the wall plugs and to an extent the screw length. As the wallplug is 50mm in length, will it not just ‘pop’ through the chipboard and fall into the solum, never...

    Connecting water inlet to cistern

I am currently installing a toilet. I will need to use a flexible hose to connect the water supply to the inlet of the cistern. As you can see the cistern input is on the opposite side from the water supply. I am confused with amount of different flexi pipe hoses and different diameters...

Washers and caps for toilet installation

I'm in the process of installing a new toilet. I'll obviously need to purchase nylon washers to secure the pan, using screws shown, to the floor. Is there a standard type of nylon washer for this type of job? Also, I've seen white caps that fit over these screws to make it all look...

Minimum penetration distance of toilet spigot into soil pipe?

What is the minimum distance you have inserted into pan connector and not got any leaks? Same question; what is the minimum insertion distance where you have achieved successful install? Also, what do you mean by "finned end into soil pipe?" Thanks

Minimum penetration distance of toilet spigot into soil pipe?

What is the minimum penentration the spigot (back of toilet) needs to be inserted into pan/soil pipe? I am in a situation with a limit and it would help to get a definitive answer. Thanks

    Screwing toilet pan to floorboard

I'll order the toilet then take it from there. There is no rush to get this done. Thanks for help so far.

    Screwing toilet pan to floorboard

I will be purchasing a toilet shortly and am concerned of the screwing of the pan to the floorboards. Here is the old screws from the toilet I removed: It does seem rather large? Is this absolutely necessay? Aren’t floorboards around 15 mm thick, so why need a 80 mm screw? I've looked at my...

Connecting modern toilet to old set up.

This is the soil pipe. It's quite thick, I'd say about 3mm. This soil pipe is also rock hard. I think it would be difficult to cut. This a close up of the thickness of the soil pipe. Anyone know what material this is?

Connecting modern toilet to old set up.

Thanks for these ideas. The "space saving" pan connector could not be inserted past the halfway point of the soil pipe due to its bend, meaning it would stickout more from the soil pipe inlet. This would result in the toilet having to be moved a few centimetres to the left which would look...

Connecting modern toilet to old set up.

I need to replace one of my toilets (downstairs WC). Please see pic below. I am fast realising a big challenge is my toilet is an older one (1998) where the soil pipe inlet is set further away from the wall (19.5 cm) compared to modern ones. The horizontal pan connector (17cm from wall) is...

Replace toilet pan (bowl ) only help

I am encountering this issue as well. I require to replace the pan (bowl) and would rather not replace a perfectly working cistern. To be clear; even if I am required to buy a complete set (pan and cistern), I would still want to just replace the pan. The answer to @flameport question is it...

    Blue/green powder in water

After the freeze about three weeks ago, (Mid-december) I have noticed there is green/blue powder in the water that comes out my taps that are fed from the cold water storage in the loft, ie bath, sink, shower. This water tank did freeze over and no water came out those taps for 3 days. The...

    A quiet heater?

The Russell Hobbs oil radiator just clinked as much as the Delonghi one, so that's been returned. How about mica heaters? They have no moving parts, just electricity passed through this 'mica' compound. Anyone know anything about them?
