I have tried to install this toilet but am struggling to get it water tight.

The two screws which hold the cistern against the pan are the culprit. I keep tightening them but it's becoming more difficult to tighten them. I have been using a small spanner tighten the nut on the underside while using a screwdriver to hold the screw still from the top (in the cistern). I could probably manage to turn a tiny bit more but am concerned of over tightening?

Is there any 'trade trick' that can be done here?

Am I missing something?

I fit Syphon and inlet. Just nip up as there is no water pressure so they seal hand tight. Normally a half turn further will do it.

Re the through bolts.
First nut under just a turn further than hand tight.
Put cistern over a bucket and fill with water to test for leaks.
If all good place cistern on toilet with new doughnut.
Tighten bolts. Not too tight though. Just nip up.

Sounds like you dogged up nuts way too tight crushing the rubber to hell

Buy new bolt set from Wickes or Screwfix

For clarity, the screw/bolt connects the cistern to the pan. I can't test the through bolts for leaks unless the entire toilet is put together.

The entire toilet system is brandnew, including the doughnut.

Are you saying that overtightening can cause leaks?

There was no wing supplied. I agree a wing nut is missing though to lock the underside bolt in position. I also think a rubber washer of sorts would help underneath as well to provide double seal.

I am going to try this.

Which model of Armitage Shanks is it? Can you post a photo of the instructions? I found not I’ll try and look them up if you tell me the model.

It's not clear but should be a nut here.

Then test over a bucket unless you're confident
