No call for central heating - problem solving

System suddenly decided to stop calling for central heating. Just wanted to go through my through process and get any other ideas where to check. It's a very simple open vent non condensing set-up with an old dial thermostat and a basic central heating/hot water control switch. 1) Central...

    Tyre Rotation, any point?

Yeh, it's what I thought/knew to be the case. I was just so baffled that they have got it so wrong that I wanted to double check I was not going mad. The big issue may be an incorrect water dispersal pattern/direction and therefore reduced wet weather performance. That's the more concerning...

    Tyre Rotation, any point?

This kind of links to my tyre rotation, but on another car..... I need to share this to confirm I am not going mad..... But I was checking something on a relatives car and whilst partially under the car I noticed on the inside inner tyre wall it says....."outside". I then when to another...

    Flat heating/hotwater improvements....choices....

Yes they are allowed. I might need to just make the freeholder aware it was being added but a large number of flats have them, so it should just be a formality. The complex had gas added in the recent past as a one off infrastructure upgrade, and it was an individual option to have it added at...

    Flat heating/hotwater improvements....choices....

It would be, but that is where we get into the expenditure problem. I would probably be required to do that for the heat pump to actually be viable to use. So it would add much more cost to the situation just to potentially get it to work. I can install GCH and it will work fine, maybe cost...

    Flat heating/hotwater improvements....choices....

It is without any evidence. But, the location/design of the block means (low rise) this flat has a blank section of external wall that could easily accommodate a heatpump. It would be out of view of other flats and potentially comply with noise/distance. But, there is the likely hood that it...

    Flat heating/hotwater improvements....choices....

Yeh, I think, based on some rough numbers, that it makes more sense. If I replace the cylinder with a unvented direct, I am essentially committing to an all electric set-up. This would mean the perfectly good manual storage heaters would need to be updated to HHR at some point (even just for...

    Flat heating/hotwater improvements....choices....

I was trying to work out that too, but I assumed some kind of air to air heat pump/warm air? I am coming back round to gas central heating, although there is the possibility that the flat could accommodate a heat pump. When doing the numbers, while replacing the cylinder to get mains...

    Flat heating/hotwater improvements....choices....

I'm less concerned about that really. I'm more just trying to get opinions or suggestions if there is anything I had not considered or am missing. Gas is an attractive option but, I am wondering if there is likely to be a push towards more electric in the next 10 years so little point doing an...

    Flat heating/hotwater improvements....choices....

I have a small two bedroom flat that I let out. Circa 1970s low rise block of flats (above average quality for the time). Current EPC rating D (I think) could be E. But some improvements have been made since then. It comprises of a small bathroom, one small long box bedroom, and a main bedroom...

    Tyre Rotation, any point?

According to my service records, the tyres were wearing pretty evenly, with more slightly more wear to the fronts. But what caught my attention today was that the inner of the front driver's side looks moderately more worn to the inner than the front passenger side. I have no issues with...

    Tyre Rotation, any point?

I was musing rotating my tyres as I've done about 6000 miles on this set (all from new). But I keep seeing differing opinions, with a quite a few saying that for modern cars, rotation is not as needed or as useful as it used to be. Should it be as simple as (for a FWD car) fronts to the back...

Oil dilution problems on Focus 2017 Mk 3.5 1.5 litre durotorq 120 bhp engine

I find this guy an invaluable resource regarding DPF issues. https://www.youtube.com/@ORileysAutos Unlike many garages and main dealers, he actually tries to understand the root cause of the issue by looking at the live data and problem solving. A few of his videos cover fuel dilution issues...

Boiler Service cost - unresonabley high? Conflicted.

The old glowworm still fires up lovely https://streamable.com/6n40vn There is something reassuring about being able to see the pilot light and see/hear it roar into life.....albeit with an efficiency penalty....

Oil dilution problems on Focus 2017 Mk 3.5 1.5 litre durotorq 120 bhp engine

One thing I have realised recently is that if you look in the service guide for most cars there are two interval types. Normal use and arduous use. What I have come to realise is that the majority of people, especially those driving modern diesels, probably come under the arduous use category...

Boiler Service cost - unresonabley high? Conflicted.

I think a lot of the time it is a holdover from when they did actually provide a genuine service. But times change and people either don't realise the change or cling to known brands for fear of change. I even knew someone who did not like switching away from British Gas as an energy supplier...

Boiler Service cost - unresonabley high? Conflicted.

I'm sorry to say, it's likely they had you over a barrel. Your situation mirrored mine. This happened about 14 years ago now, but I have seen similar reports of them doing this on Watchdog too. - BG came to do a service (sorry.....safety check), and oddly took much longer than expected. After...

Boiler Service cost - unresonabley high? Conflicted.

It's sometimes worse than that. British gas are known to turn their safety check into fault finding in order to needlessly condemn a boiler. They tried this on with me a long while ago (I have posted about it here). I had to get another local company to re-activate the boiler after they...

Merge In Turn, why does no one do it properly!

Probably right, I am likely over-estimating the intelligence and competence of most drivers..... The additional issue with the X'd lanes, and I forgot this at the time, is that they also activate the speed cameras for those lanes. So if you are caught unawares and don't have time to make it to...
