    Plain white wallpaper

Wallrock fiber liner I guess you could leave unpainted. If you bought a white vinyl it's not Ideal to paint as you may need a primer first. . Only other option is Superfresco White textured or patterned which should be painted but you could leave as is for a bit. What you want don't exist...

    Flakey Bay with weird sills

Strip paint off. Clean lead and treat. Painting lead is never a good idea as it peels. Or General builder as they will advise and project manage other trades if required.

Prepping floor for tiling - options?

Not my area but. I used moisture-resistant chipboard and glued joints. Tiled on that with correct adhesive. Been down 19 years. It's the same width as floorboards

    Is this an Air Brick?

Yeah. You are correct. It happens. It shouldn't. I have similar and it's just marked as not to regulations on the boiler service paperwork.

Is there a single primer that covers these situations?

Zinsser BIN is quick drying but it's a one coat product and very thin plus it has no opacity. You just need to get a cover on with a mini roller and brush. No messing or trying to get it to cover any dark background. Don't go back over and don't second coat. Just get on with it. You just have...

Repairing doorway after new front door installation

Why didn't they finish off with a trim or filler? Looks ok. When the foam is cut off and filled with a trim it will be fine.

Repairing doorway after new front door installation

I guess you mean polyfilla. Polyfilla is not as good as some other modern fillers imo. Use toupret powder filler. 2kg box will do. Masking tape will keep the door clean and stop any accidental scratching. Fill. Sand. You will need a trim of wood or plastic especially on the right side to...

    Painting Wallrock lining paper

Masq Purple (Ciret) is a premium, low-tack masking. I love the stuff and a popular tape. Try it. You will love it. Re frog green. It's high tack and only good for carpet or hard surfaces. I don't use it. I like frog yellow though. Frog tape is the only one with polymer dust on tape edge...

    Newly Plastered Ceiling

It's because people cook and create steam. They may not have an extractor or if they do it might not vent outside.. Also the type of cooking can effect paints especially if you have a deep fat frier. Smaller kitchens also can get higher humidity from cooking.. So it's picking the correct...

    Newly Plastered Ceiling

Why use a durable on the ceiling? Will have around a 5% sheen as a durable. You would be better with a lower sheen matt

    Newly Plastered Ceiling

I think crown recommend using the clean extreme as a mist coat. It's because durable emulsion don't like being applied to anything that is not a sealed surface. You may end up using clean extreme as a mist coat over the vinyl matt

    Newly Plastered Ceiling

All paints ( and building materials) have a data sheet (instructions) look online. So each paint can have a slightly different application or preparation over dry surfaces like plaster. Often it's 10% water added for first coat but I normally add a bit more. The retail Dulux with dog on can, has...

    Hot/Cold handrails, options, ideas etc.

Everything is hot in this weather. Darker the colour the worse it is but I know scaffolders are struggling as all the metal bars are too hot to handle. Your best bet and I'm not being funny. Don't go out when it's hot like this. As for the cold. Same problem although I guess you will have...

Door lining and skirting sanding advice

Coverstain is a good high build primer and will denib nicely with 320 grade. Anything thats not great I used to bind and build up with coverstain. Depends how well you prepare and how much you can get off. Some use peelstop but I never found a need for it

Door lining and skirting sanding advice

If you rub gloss with meths and any comes off its water based gloss. Oil based gloss nothing will happen. Also be mindful the gloss if old will contain lead so not good for your health. Use a heat gun and tungsten scraper to get it gloss off. Cobra Infrared heat lamp are good but very...

Lift-to-lock door handle occasionally won't let the key turn

Silicone spray. Never never never wd 40. That will make it worse! It's a rust free loosener and cleaner that evaporates. Probably the heat as our front door is a problem but fine when it's under 22c ish. Latch plates screws tight? Sometimes you just got to put up with it.. Dark coloured...

    Patio step questions

You don't need to scrape off all the mortar. Just the loose. You can always slurry the bricks when you stick down. I'm dipping my slab brick edgers in slurry just before I push in sand and cement. Wetter mix is easier although sometimes you need a thicker mix to build up depth. Just...

    Patio step questions

I use a 42l tub like sold at Wickes. Cheap paddle mixer that are around £50. Had that years. Some add mixture. 2 buckets of sharp sand.. Half bucket of cement. Splash of add mix. Water. As for retaining wall I have limited knowledge. What about gravel along the wall. Many don't and it's fine.
