Yes, the system water is still open vented but the hot water is now mains pressure with an expansion vessel. It meets the regulations here and in fact the plumbers merchants don't even stock parts for open vented plumbing.

Sometimes if plaster is stale it sets more rapidly than normal. I don't throw it out, I keep it for jobs like this, where you want the box to be firm before completing the wiring.

Yes, it has a worm drive but the parts are metal and not stripped. The other machine does have a plastic gear that has stripped it's teeth but that is the main reduction gear for the chain drive sprocket.
