tiling round velux window. Tiles kick up

Hi I am new to this forum stuff so hoping i do it right and someone can help. We installed a couple of velux, and have tried to tile round it but the tiles kick up an awful lot around the window, esp at the bottom. Is this right? Velux advised us to use the edj flashing kit but all the pics i...

Problems with Velux - tiles bow up

I am working with my builder to fit two Velux windows on a "flat roof to pitched roof" conversion. The angle of the new roof (circa 22 degs) is such that we have had to use quite high profile tiles - circa 35mm in thickness. I have checked and we are using the correct Velux flashing kit but the...

New roof- tiles kicking around velux

Hi all, looking for some advice, got New roof fitted today and the tiles are kicking up at the side and looks awful. When I questioned this I was told that this is unavoidable, its an old roof and so on. I'm a woman and felt they were a bit condescending, I don't know if this is right and am a bit...

    Grinding tiles around velux

I have seen several threads where people mention grinding tiles to get them to sit better around a velux. I am having trouble getting marley moderns to sit nicely around a velux with edj flashing. The tile nibs around the velux were ground off but do you need to actually grind the tile down...

    Tiling around velux windows untidy

The tiles have significant kick up and it looks untidy and im worried about leaks. Builder advises...

Another post about roofing and velux windows

Hi, I've read quite a few posts about similar issues to mine, so apologies for duplication. We have completed an house extension that has a 15 degree pitch roof using sandtoft roof tiles. There are 4 velux windows and the roofer has used the correct EDW flashing kit, according to Velux. I am...

Velux Window Fitting / Sandtoft flat interlock tiles

velux and their instructions are not rubbish. they are in fact, idiot-proof. is is perfectly normal for the tiles to kick up a little and will not detract from the window's performance.

Sandtoft 20/20 tiles around Velux Windows 15 Degrees

Can someone please help with their opion on these freshly installed tiles around Velux windows. At the very least does not look neat, but is there are risk of leaking here. The tiles are kicking up so much at the sides it looks like a problem just waiting to happen when there is heavy rain.

    How to fix this flashing.

You’ve got a massive kick up on the velux flashing too. Do you live in an exposed area? Retro fitting a cavity tray to a little bit of rendered wall with a decent soffit overhang…

Roof issues with marley modern smooth interlocking tiles

Whose idea was it to fit the roof window up against the wall? Sounds like crap design to me. I've only ever fitted Velux and they are idiot proof. The edge tiles usually have a modest kick.

tiling around two velux windows look messy, is it done correctly?

What's the roof pitch for starts? Velux windows go down to 15 degrees done right. Are tiles suitable for the pitch and have the right headlap if so? Some brands do tile and halves not sure with this tile however this would have eliminated the small cuts are the Velux. The kick up around the...

Sandtoft 20/20 tiles around Velux Windows 15 Degrees

With a low pitch, you need to make sure that any water that might get past the tiles can run down the membrane and out into the gutter. That's where counter battening comes in. I'd fix OSB to the rafters, then the Tyvek, then low profile vertical battens, then the usual horizontal battens and...

Is this normal? Tiles around velux look messy

The tiles a kicking up at the sides of the velux because they will be sitting on the sponge on the flashings.we always remove this because getting the tiles to sit right is nigh on impossible due to the thickness of sponge.or trim it down, but with a flat tile like these better to remove it..

    "Untidy" extension roof appearance

There is a certain amount of kick-up to be expected. However, your tiles have been incorrectly fitted in any case. There is an upright seem running down the length of the side flashings (about 50mm in from the side of the velux) up to which the tiles should be butted. It is ok if the...

Roof looks awful since Velux fitted.

Sounds like the tiles are kicking up at the sides of the velux, this would give a 'sweeping' effect between the two windows Builder probably hasnt removed the nib off the back of the tile where it sits over the flashing kit or hasnt trimmed down the foam .

    Velux Window Advice

Hi I need a bit more advice on the velux problem please. Managed to track the builder down and he reckons the reason for the tiles kicking up is that the roof uses 19mm battens and should have 25-38mm battens. Is this correct or just BS. Thanks Racey

Extension roof tiling does not look "tidy" near ve

Our extension has now been completed. However, I am not entirely happy with the way roof tiling is looking around the velux windows. The tiles are "kicking up", particularly around the velux window on the left. Apart from the aesthetic concerns, I am worried that this "untidy" appearance can...
