    Full Rewire Cost Saving?

No tests have been done. All just looked at it and said rewire. From what I've read online cables should be replaced every 30 years (but in practice last longer). Some of the wiring I've seen in the loft does look dodgy. The guys running the new supply cable found a loose earth wire today. I've...

    Full Rewire Cost Saving?

I'm told by the network corporater it's free. They started the work today. My old supply comes from the house next door and the cables are about 10mm (very under sized apparently). New cable is now in place but they can't connect it up as the man next door isn't answering to allow disconnection...

    Full Rewire Cost Saving?

This is what I was thinking. Run all the new cables, put in the back boxes, then get a spark to do the wiring up. I've had conflicting feedback from electricians on a new CU. Some say they can get one in the space, others say no.

    Full Rewire Cost Saving?

I've had a few sparks out who have all said it's a full rewire. The sockets and fuse box do look very old.

Thanks for your replies everyone. It sounds like this may not save much money after all.

    Full Rewire Cost Saving?

My house needs a full rewire and Ive been quoted £5K-£6K which I just cant afford. I've been trying to think of ways to keep costs down and I wondered if I was legally allowed to run all the new cabling myself and have an electrician complete the connections. Me: Run all new cables for sockets...

    How strong is liquid membrane?

I've just tanked around my new shower tray and it's ready for tiling. I'm a bit concerned the liquid membrane isn't strong enough to hold tiles. I used the below kit from Toolstation and applied to tile backer board. I've found i could peal off bits of the liquid membrane with my finger nail...

    Tile on door frame

Can you tile over a wooden door frame? Tiling my bathroom and want to tile right up to the door for a minimalist look. Is it possible to do or will I have to get a new door frame (Architrave)? Walls are backer board.

Fixing Shower tray to wooden floor

I have a stone resin shower tray to fix to a hardwood plywood sheet floor (link to wood below). The instructions say to use mortar to fix the tray. I've never used mortar to fix a tray before (I believe it's an older way of doing it). Would a strong adhesive not be a better choice? I've used...

    Tiling on plaster walls?

I'm not sure of the best way to proceed. The walls are not even from top to bottom but it sounds like a skim would weaken the walls. Am I better off sheeting the full walls with plasterboard?

    Tiling on plaster walls?

I'm planning to get my bathroom walls skimming before tiling them (to get the walls even). Someone told me you don't tile on plaster anymore. Is this true? It sounds wrong.

Toilet + Shower in same downpipe

Quick question: if I was to connect the basin into the same waste pipe as the shower, how would I avoid the basin syphonig the shower trap. I had this issue in my old flat, but I was on the 3rd floor and I think the fall of the downpipe was a big factor.

Toilet + Shower in same downpipe

Im replacing the bathroom in my new house and found the toilet and shower share the same downpipe. The basin runs to a different stack. I used to do some plumbing when I was younger and I've never seen this setup. It seems a bit unhygienic. It's an older house so the waste and rainfall...
