That makes sense on reflection, cars do the same as they switch the air recirculation to the interior of the vehicle when put on max so it's constantly cooling and conditioning the same air

Thanks, there actually in decent condition to say they've been stood with old fuel in them, the ultrasonic cleaner will also come in useful on some other projects I have so I haven't bought it just for this job.

It's a delkovic exhaust. It's been stood a few years so I've removed the carbs today and ordered an ultrasonic cleaner for them but other than that it shouldn't need much.

Taping and filling the joints is perfectly acceptable and often done in Europe, you'll just end up with a slightly different finish to the paint compared to painting onto plaster but many people do it.
