    Conservatory drainage issue

Hi, Our conservatory is leaking and its proving a challenge to figure out where its coming from. Where the external wall meets the conservatory there is an aluminum drainage channel. It seems to have a join there which I believe is where the leak is happening so I want to fix this first. I'm...

    Layout advice please

Nah the floor I’m doing 600x600. So it’s whether I can line it up so all it’s all aligned and not off centre. Difficult bit is there is a radius cut for the shower tray. So I’m only going to get 2 full tiles for the floor at the most. It’s a really small room!

    Layout advice please

Thanks. Good idea. Would you start from the window wall to set the height? I’m thinking best route is to have a full tile the bottom of the window it’s 600mm wide so should hopefully line up ok. Not done full walls before so wary my inexperience will lead me into some pitfalls.

    Layout advice please

Hi Looking to start my tiling this weekend. Quite a small area but doing walls and floor. What’s the best layout for the the attached photos? I’m guessing the hardest part is going to be the wall with the window? Tiles to be used are 300x600 for the walls. 3mm grout spacing. Max height of the...

    Laminate underlay confusion

Yeah I’ll get it level the best I can. It’s already got laminate down im just replacing it. Just wary of what I may find when I lift it. There’s been some shoddy work I’ve had to fix in this house already. Thanks for the help.

    Laminate underlay confusion

Did you mean fine with any thickness? Just a bit weird how you’ve only got 1mm of tolerance according to the packet. Bit strange I thought. Is it better to go thicker on underlay when you’ve got a more uneven floor?

    Laminate underlay confusion

Ouch, thats well out of my price range. The sonic gold looks like its about £25 for 15m2 so 1/3 the price. Any advice on why its saying I can't use 5mm on the packet of laminate though? Thanks for the input.

    Laminate underlay confusion

Hey everyone, I'm a bit confused by the options i've got for underlay on my laminate. On the packaging for the laminate, which is Wickes Arreton laminate, it says minimum 2mm and maximum of 3mm of underlay. Yet when I look online, I generally see lots of recommendations for sonic gold 5mm and...

Insulating floor joists - quick question

Thanks Robin. Really appreciate the detailed response. The underlay I'll use for the laminate (sonic gold) is essentially a vapour barrier so I'm hoping that itself will eliminate a lot of draughts. I'll try for the under the joist fixing if possible but wary about crawl space being pretty...

Insulating floor joists - quick question

That’s annoying. You would hope you’d see some benefit. To be honest I’m going to be using sonic gold underlay for the laminate which I will tape at the seams so that’ll stop the draughts meaning the membrane is probably excessive in that situation.

Insulating floor joists - quick question

What did you use for the membrane? I've got some tyvek house wrap so thinking thats probably a good solution. Wouldn't the concrete just act as a massive heat sink and take ages to get warm?

Insulating floor joists - quick question

Yeah, was tempted by that but get the impression its a bit unwieldly? I guess once its on you know it isn't going anywhere. What fixing did you use?

Insulating floor joists - quick question

For context, its more the cost thats an issue for me. I'm refurbishing the house to sell on and replacing the laminate as its knackered. So figured I'd help the next owners out with insulating the floor because its freezing now. 150mm should have the same performance as 70mm PIR shouldn't it...

Insulating floor joists - quick question

Yeah but PIR is such a pain. Happy to go to 150mm insulation as thats what regs say. Plus its far more expensive and time consuming doing PIR imo. Happy to be proven wrong..

Insulating floor joists - quick question

Hi, Had a look round but couldn't find an answer specific to my query. Going with rockwool insulation for a suspended timber floor. I've got a load of house wrap that I could use to hold the insulation between the joists. However, is this the best route or would I be better off going with...

    Carpet cutting efficiency

Thank you. Appreciate the input. I thought I’d probably be at the very low end with that budget. Thanks for all your effort on this one.

Depends how you look at it. I consider myself unlucky they’re 250kg short!

    Carpet cutting efficiency

Thank you. Axfelt looks a good option. Do the denser ones still feel soft under the foot? £46m2 is a fair bit out of my budget. Was hoping for £30m2 including the underlay. Appreciate that won’t get me really good carpet but we are looking to sell our house soon and the carpets are completely...

    Carpet cutting efficiency

For clarity my calculations were wrong. Wasn’t trying to defend my numbers in the last post. Was just trying to work out where I’d gone wrong. That’s why I said I’d done the thing you suggested in my head but didn’t write it down on paper when I calculated it. Running on about 4 hours sleep a...

Is this really a tonne bag?

Thanks. They sent me a pic of their yard and all the bags were filled like that. I don’t think it will have been down to damp as the test I did was with damp gravel as it’s been rained on the past 2 days.
