I think staggering looks vastly better, as for T&G or not it's up to you what you like the look of/can afford. If it were me I'd be using cement cladding rather than timber, Marley weatherboard or similar though last time I checked Hardie Planks from JamesHardie were the cheapest.
Don’t look any further than James Hardi cladding. Not cheap but you get what you pay for.
if you can use a hammer and or a drill it’s a straight forward job.
How are your Google skills?
JamesHardie and co. have very clear instructions online on how to do this, including a video on Youtube.
I won't patronise you by just giving you the link.
We are tiling our bathroom floor which has 70 year old floorboards exhibiting the usual wear, tear and irregularities. There is also a slight bow to the floor, albeit only noticeable with a long, straight edge. Replacing them with chipboard is not really viable because two of the original walls...
We are planning to tile our bathroom floor: I have seen so much conflicting information that I am confused and should like to try and get some clarity before starting.
We have sound wooden floorboards. My plan is to do the following on top of the boards:
- 6mm Hardie board (from Topps...
Thanks for the reply. Too late though, already done ;-) I used Hardie and followed the advice from JamesHardie (in a pdf and a video), fixing it with Gripfill and also screwing and plugging. I don't think it'll be going anywhere.
Cheers
Richard
thanks for that mate, makes for decent reading, when speaking to the techs at JamesHardie a few years ago I was informed that for domestic showers there is no need for any tanking system. Obviously they have updated there information, I stand corrected, B17nns I owe you an apology mate...
There are many threads on this topic already, I know, but I am trying to get it clear in my mind before I waste time and money.
We have 22mm (3/4"?) wooden floorboards in the bathroom which we plan to tile with 600mm by 600mm tiles. The boards are sound, but have the usual irregularities...
Hi TP
Odd that. I had this discussion last week with James Hardi's tech rep.
They don't advocate priming and I'm surprised nomoreply do.
As it's a product aimed at DIY market I suppose they are going for a belt and braces approach.
Guess it can't do any harm. An old pro told me "if...
WBP ply is no good ? why ?
Backer boards don't cover enough area ? once again, why ?
I think 8 x 4 ply covers the same area as 8 x 4 hardie board http://www.homedepot.com/p/James-Hardie-HardieBacker-1-4-in-x-4-ft-x-8-ft-Cement-Backerboard-220006/100157596
so not too many joints at all
...Also the tiles we have chosen are approx 32kg / sq m (inc addy).
My question is, if I dot and dab the board to the walls first, before fixing with screw, what do I use as adhesive ?
I have looked on the JamesHardie web site but do not seem to be able to find an info.
Any help would be great.
...I'll need a circular saw blade because even if I only have to rip one board that's going to be worth it!
I might even see if I can 'massage' the design slightly to avoid ripping any full-length planks since at this stage I still have the flexibility and I already chose the product (JamesHardie)
...but has no effect on rigidity, only to make up heights if needed, but usually you would be after the least build up possible.
@SomeUser Have a read on the jameshardie website about Hardie backer. They will tell you all the info you need to know, including that you use 6mm for floor overlay.
James - check out these sites for loads of info:

You'll need to cut away that carpet to reveal the hearth below and obtain a fender (the 'wall' that goes around the hearth to stop hot stuff rolling onto the floor and...
I'd like to see Tom Hardy have a crack at it, but to be fair, Idris Elba is pretty awesome as an actor. I don't think a black actor as Bond is a problem in this day and age, Idris certainly has a track record for action films and playing a 'mean' character, I'd be more concerned if it were...
...glazed windows fitted all round and replace with two 800mm x 1200mm upvc double glazed windows either side. I would also like to use JamesHardie cladding for the sides. And then plasterboard inside.
It has a solid flat roof by the way.
Can anyone see any problems with this? i would obviously...
...you have to limit the depth you can come out because of them (around 43mm on one and 37mm on the other remaining).
So, when I contacted JamesHardie they said it didn't matter what depth of batten I used to level it out and I could use the 6mm on the wall because they will still take the...
