    Replacing MR16 transfomer

Yes that's what it is, it obviously didn't like LED bulbs. I've swapped it for two LED low voltage drivers and I now have ten happy lights working.

    Replacing MR16 transfomer

I guess that's the same for every bathroom in the world!

    Replacing MR16 transfomer

Further probing... The black junction box (called a MF300) is dated 1998 - is kaput. The white transformer is dated 2013 and it works. Took one connection from the black box and inserted it into the transformer and that light worked again. So will need a new transformer to replace the black box...

    Replacing MR16 transfomer

So I disconnected the white transformer ... now only one light works. Confusing. So I'm guessing the transformer powers four of the lights, the black junction box powers five (could this have its own in-built transformer?), and there's a rogue one with a life of its own. Thanks for all your replies.

    Replacing MR16 transfomer

Only bought the house this year so don't blame me for the wiring chaos! It is a large bathroom but 10 lights is excessive. The junction box has five ports where the wires shoot off through the joists. I presume there is another one of these feeding the other five lights. The four wires coming...

    Replacing MR16 transfomer

Our bathroom has 10 MR16 halogen lights. I've been replacing them with LED's and after a short while 5 of them stopped working. I've taken up the floorboards to reveal as shown in the pic. I resume the white box is the transformer and the black box is the junction box? Would it be a simple case...

Our house vibrates from HGV's and buses, should I be worried?

Hi, we recently moved into our new house. The mortgage survey showed no issues and as there were no visible signs of cracks or subsidence we did not opt for a proper survey. It’s been a few weeks now and we’ve noticed there is substantial vibration from passing HGVs and busses, more noticeable...

Vaillant eco tec plus 637 not communicating with thermostat

Vaillant came ... it was the pcb after all.

Vaillant eco tec plus 637 not communicating with thermostat

£300 fixed fee from Vaillant would normally be ok, but having already spent £450, would prefer to buy a pcb from ebay and get my engineer to fit it and hope that cures it.

Vaillant eco tec plus 637 not communicating with thermostat

Connecting terminals 3 and 4 is one of the first things the engineer did. He phoned Vallaint and they couldn't provide an answer re ebus/com err. Having replaced the thermostat and controller, If I replace the pcb would that mean pretty much cover all electrics issues, or are there further...

Vaillant eco tec plus 637 not communicating with thermostat

jackthom - yes, connecting wires 3 and 4 does make the boiler run. Does that mean the pcb would be ok?

Vaillant eco tec plus 637 not communicating with thermostat

The concept of forums like these is to ask questions and give answers. I am a member of many and do my best to offer help where I can. I have had an engineer in, and he's stumped. Even his hotline to top-line Vaillant support couldn't help. I'm here to see if anyone has ever experienced similar...

Vaillant eco tec plus 637 not communicating with thermostat

Hi guys, came home from a weekend away to find out our house had been hit by lightening. We have no hot water/heating from our eco tec plus 637. The wired thermostat showed 'com err' (communications error). The boiler itself seems ok but is displaying errors S.0 (no request for hot water) and...

    Confusing problems with heating system

Update. System has been problem free since being last summer after taking all the rads off and hosing thru, fitting new heat exchanger, adding inhibitor and installing a second filter. I'm quite impressed by my own abilities to sort this after nearly ripping the whole system out. Long may it last!

If rads are rusting inside, can anything be done?

The spirotrap is a mesh-based filter. In fairness Tony, some people on here do question your advice![/b]

If rads are rusting inside, can anything be done?

Job done. System drained, new hex, added a Spirotrap so there's two filters on it now, cleaner added - back next week to drain, refill and add inhibitor. If that doesn't last, I will nuke the place. I undo the nut on the strainer - there was no mesh, just an empty hole to the return pipe.

If rads are rusting inside, can anything be done?

I will check this tomorrow. It's never been touched as far as I know, if there is mesh inside then it is surely blocked up and has been of no use for years. I think I'll replace it with a Spirotrap. This, with the TF1, drain and add cleaner / then drain and add inhibitor - will hopefully work...
