    Power supply for modem

Yes it's definitely fibre to the house from the pole. They said there isn't fibre in the cabinet. I can't wait. My life is going to be so amazing when I have superfast fibre broadband.

    Power supply for modem

Thanks all, very useful. But now I realise I'm confused. I don't even know if I'm getting a hub or a modem or both - I've got a box on the wall outside the front door that has a fibre cable coming into it from the telegraph pole. I assumed that whatever they're fitting would give me wireless...

    Power supply for modem

Hi, I'm getting BT superfast fibre broadband next week. The guy came yesterday but I don't have a power supply by the front door, and it wasn't practical to run the non bendy cable around two doorways and corners, so he went away. I have several options to add a spur to a socket but they are all...

    table stain accidently rubbed off

I'm not sure that it's actually stained. Wood tends to darken by itself, particularly if exposed to sunlight. You might find the tone evens out over time.

    Conservatory roof repair

Ok, thanks, I wasn't sure if there was a better way. I made a slate rip out of an old saw, grinding out the hanger hole into a slot. Seems to work ok. Would the glue be for the bottom corners of the slates - instead of a nailed lead bib?

    Conservatory roof repair

The bars extend to the face of the original facia. They added 1" board to the front of the facia to support the rafters. Predecessor also fitted polystyrene to the underside, it helps to stop the oven effect in the summer. I'm hoping to be able to renew the aluminium bars without having to take...

    Conservatory roof repair

Hi, I've been avoiding the inevitable since moving here a few years ago, but with the long dry spell, I have made a start on dealing with the rot and leaks in my conservatory. The main problem is that the seals in the roof extrusions have perished. My predecessor tried to solve it by adding...

Help to identify window paint please

Thanks Robbie, that would make sense - it was built 1986. It looks like the stuff is still available so I'll get hold of some and see if it works. Thanks a lot.

Help to identify window paint please

My windows are all painted with this dark brown stuff, but I don't know what it is. There doesn't appear to be any primer or undercoat. It's quite flexible and plasticy. It sort of "shrinks" back to reveal the wood underneath. I doubt it will overpaint with anything other than itself, so I need...

Oil boiler not firing after tank ran out

Thanks John, well I took the pump to pieces and apart from a little debris on the large filter, it all seemed ok, so I put it back together - and it's working again! House warming up, kids happy. A few drips to deal with tomorrow, but all seems good (famous last words). Have to get the pressure...

Oil boiler not firing after tank ran out

So I've taken the pump out and starting to dismantle it. I was hoping to find the plastic coupler was broken, but it seems fine. Can anyone tell me how a pump is likely to fail or what I should be looking for? Also I can see a number on the pump 6076 0041 - but this doesn't seem to match any...

Oil boiler not firing after tank ran out

Thanks Oilhead. Ok so I took out the bleed screw (slight sucking noise), then pressed start. Oil squirts out. At 10 secs, there is click but no change in squirt pressure. I read somewhere that you can also bleed from the vacuum port on the side, but when I unscrewed this, nothing came out, even...

Oil boiler not firing after tank ran out

So I took out the nozzle - it's clean and clear. When I first tried to bleed the pump, I unscrewed the pressure adjustment screw mistakenly. I screwed it back to where it was (more or less). I don't know if that will have affected it. When I run it out of the boiler, I can see the electrodes...

Oil boiler not firing after tank ran out

Thanks for the thought - however if oil is pouring out of the pump when I remove the bleed screw, I assumed this means the oil supply is ok. Doesn't it?

Oil boiler not firing after tank ran out

I've had a look at a few other threads and Riello technical info. I took the burner out so I could see the nozzle/electrodes - after 10 secs the electrodes started sparking, but no oil coming from nozzle. Then lock out. I took out the photocell, but no still no ignition. I'll have a play with...

Oil boiler not firing after tank ran out

Stupid I know. It's an Riello 40 G2 in a Boulter Camray 15/19 external wall mounted - at least 15yrs old. However it has been running fine recently, but ran out of oil 3 days ago. Had the tank refilled this morning, and although the first couple of goes at the reset didn't work, it then fired...

Why is my oil boiler kettling?

Well I'm flabbergasted. I drained the system down to below the level of the pump, poured in the X-200, topped up and bled the system, turned on the boiler, and immediately - NO KETTLING! I've turned the boiler stat up to 70 and had it running for a few days now - all sorted! Amazing!

Why is my oil boiler kettling?

I already checked that the system is generally clean last year by removing a few rads and finding them all pretty clean. The system works well and heats the house well. I hope it'll turn out to be a build up of scale inside the boiler so I think the X200 is probably the best thing to try first...

Why is my oil boiler kettling?

Thanks both. All was working fine after fitting the Spirotech air remover and dirt separator. But then there was the incident with the burner and I had to replace the blast tube. That's when the kettling started. I've just bought some Sentinel X200 so I'll get that into the system in the next...

Why is my oil boiler kettling?

Ok, time to drag this one out from the archives again.... So in April/May I had the boiler checked out. Oil pressure was a little high so that was set correctly. Boiler stat checked and confirmed accurate. Flue gases checked - all ok. I didn't use it at all over summer but when I began to use...
