What this soft and damp material below my utility room tiles?

I’ve started removing tiles in my utility room and found the adhesive/concrete below is quite wet and soft. It seems to be 1-2cm deep and then the concrete seems harder below that This seems to be only on the central part where a wall seems to have been. Here’s a photo and a video I’ve also...

    Uneven grout colour

No, I didn’t mix it in the bag. But even so, I would expect two different shades between the two halves of the room, not two shades within the first half.

    Uneven grout colour

Hi all, I’ve done my first DIY tiling job and I’m pretty happy apart from the grouting. I used Mapei Flexible Wall & Floor Grout Silver Grey. I did one mix, half of the room, then another mix and the other half of the room. The first half has some uneven color (it’s very dark in some places)...

    Is this bonding plaster dry?

I applied this bonding plaster two weeks ago and it still hasn’t changed colour too much. Is it dry? Can I paint it?

How do you do tiled skirting?

If it’s 20£/piece, I’m not using a tile trim. It’s cheaper to just sacrifice more tiles.

How do you do tiled skirting?

The trims don’t really hide the edge, the ones I’ve seen hide the cut surface, but any small chip or irregularity in the cut would still be visible unless there is a small part of the trim that covers the surface of the tile by 1-2mm.

How do you do tiled skirting?

Different color than the surface of the tile, regardless if it’s factory cut or not

How do you do tiled skirting?

I have tiled my conservatory and I now need to fit tiled skirting. The tiles are 450x450. I could easily get 4 pieces around 10-11cm high from each tile, but I haven’t found a way to clean cut them using my wet saw. I’m going to get a dry tile cutter, but I’m wondering how this is normally done...

How to polish and make cut edges good?

That one in the picture was my first attempt. Feeding it slower helps, but it isn’t perfect. I also noticed a slight improvement by cutting the tile upside down with an offcut below it (so that the two face each other); I find I can move it more smoothly and maybe the change in height helps a...

How to polish and make cut edges good?

I am using porcelain. The wet saw is a Erbauer ERB337TCB and a new Rubi disc; I’ve read many have a similar problem with this tool Is a carborundum stone the same that comes with a chisel sharpening kit? If so, I’ve tried it but it takes quite a while to get a decent result

How to polish and make cut edges good?

I have a wet saw with a new Rubi diamond disc, but it doesn’t leave a nice clean cut on my tiles. How can I polish the edges, possibly using something I can attach to my multitool or angle grinder?

How do I embed this hatch frame in my concrete floor?

I meant, what do I fill the cover with?

How do I embed this hatch frame in my concrete floor?

I have a bag of building sand; can I just buy a bag of cement to make mortar? Should I use mortar also to fill the cover and then bed the tile in it? Or is it better to fill it with concrete, let it dry and glue the tile with tile adhesive?

How do I embed this hatch frame in my concrete floor?

I am tiling my floor, I need to embed this metal frame (it will support a tiled hatch). What’s the best way to fix it? It needs raising about 5cm to bring it flush with the tiles, I was thinking of mortar but not sure if it’s the right choice

Wet saw not cutting clean on porcelain tile

I just picked up a second hand Erbauer ERB337TCB. It came with three discs including the original. One of them was new, a Rubi Porcelanic TCR Super Pro (ref 31975). I tried cutting a tile with the three blades and it chips with all 3, although slightly less with the brand new blade (see...

Do I need a decoupling membrane?

I have dug a hole in my conservatory to fix some drainage issues and we’ve decided to change the tiles as we have few spares and some tiles have broken loose due to vibrations from the concrete breaker. I’m going to have to fill the hole with a sand base, then concrete and self levelling...

Grinding concrete before installing replacement tiles

It actually was quite difficult to lift them up without breaking them using an sds drill with chisel; I ended up breaking them all

Grinding concrete before installing replacement tiles

What does it mean? Wrong adhesive was used? Too much? Too little?

Grinding concrete before installing replacement tiles

I tried and it sits higher; it looks like there is some adhesive the same color of the concrete or they have been ‘concreted in’
