    Adhesive, grout, which is best

I'm going to start tiling my bathroom in a week or so and have read with interest a lot of posts on this great forum. I'm going to aquapanel the 'shower area' and board the rest where required (some of the existing plasterboard was obliterated when i removed the old tiles!) I'm using 40cm x...

    Can you believe this ????...

Er....... probably because £450 is daylight robbery? just a thought.... If you are near Derby, try Midland Glass on stores road. A standard unit should cost about £20 sq. metre

    Fitting your own PVC windows

I would say you would be looking at around £50 per window and £60 per door. More if there is a lot of trimming up to do.. I guess it all depends on what £/hour you place on your spare time :D

    Paint/Plaster remedy

Hi, I had my lounge/diner skimmed late last year and in the rush to complete the job and get moved back in (staying with the in-laws) i didn't bother with a mist coat and went straight to using my chosen emulsion. This has now lead to an area where the paint has lifted. first off i removed...

    Heat reflective double glazed windows

Exactly, if say you have a 50/50 split casement side hung next to fixed, if you put the two units in (one with low e external and one internal) aesthetically they would look quite different when viewed from the outside.

    Heat reflective double glazed windows

It doesn't actually make any difference if the low e pane is on the inside or the outside, it won't effect the U value of the glazing unit at all. If i were you and particularly if you've never deglazed a window before, i'd leave it as it is. :D There is no point in damaging any beads or...

    How close to public footpath?

Cheers guys, i've started on the plans but didn't want to go into too much detail if it was going to be a non-starter!

    How close to public footpath?

I am considering an extension to a 1930's semi on a corner plot. I have about 3.6m from the external wall of the house to my boundary, a pavement which is currently bordered by a connifer hedge. Ideally i would like to build almost up to the pavement and replace connifer hedge with timber...

    Moss on Roof

Probably the same reason as if you worked at Cadbury's and several times a day a milk truck turned up and dumped its load, (you know the white stuff like you get in a bottle...) It wouldn't mean there was no cocoa in the chocolate now would it?

    Moss on Roof

Well, I guess that all depends on your belief system.... Could be as early as 4004 BCE or 300 million years ago! Asbestos "Asbestos is a naturally occurring fibrous silicate mineral which has been used in a variety of useful products for hundreds of years since Roman times. It is found and...

    Moss on Roof

I might be wrong here and get shot down in flames, but, I believe your roof tiles may be/contain aspestos as moss will tends to grow only on organic materials.

help needed from double glazing salesman

Surely to comply with Part L 2006, any window is required to have one pane of low E glass (pilks K or other) to achieve a u value of =<2.0Wm2/K :D

Best tools to cut out brickwork for French Doors?

Stihlsaw with hose connection and a slight trickle of water was how i did it, i'm not saying that this is the 'best' way but it certainly worked for me. fix some vertical timber battons to use as guides and off you go!

    A WINDOW QUESTION

Agree again :) :) , however I doubt very much that unless there are some other signs of a high performance window such as a warm edge spacer bar, that someone would use a soft coat glass by choice in older windows due to the added cost issues such as storage/shelf life and edge deletion

    A WINDOW QUESTION

As of April 1st 2002, all replacement windows were supposed to have a maximum U value of 2.2W/m2K (in real terms, one pane of low emmisivity glass, Pilks K etc) and the product must be Fensa registered. There is no way to guarantee a window was fitted after 2002 unless you have a Fensa cert...

    c arpet underlay

I can only assume that with so many posts on a forum, and looking through your previous threads, so many being critical to the point of being offensive, that this must be your only social outlet, how unfortunate... I'm sorry my 'opinions' don't tie in with yours so therefor, are clearly wrong...
