Panel fence - neighbour banked 3ft of soil against it.

Well in the interest of neighbourly spirit we had a chat. He thought it would hold the weight apparently? So i offered to help if needed and left him to figure out a solution. Using a panel fence as a retaining structure for 3ft of soil isnt a good idea.... just in case anyone ever thinks it...

Panel fence - neighbour banked 3ft of soil against it.

I find the hardest thing in situations like this is being nice about it. My head also runs at a million miles an hour so thanks for your reply, it sprinkles a bit of sanity on the situation. How could anyone think this was a good or acceptable idea? The overall stupidity of people alarms me...

Panel fence - neighbour banked 3ft of soil against it.

Hi, A young guy moved in a across the back from me about a year ago. I have never met nor been introduced to him. Last night i found out that he has built up behind my panel fence with 3 ft of soil and the panels have started to give way. I think eventually it will cause its collapse. Whats...

    Cutting 22mm Sandstone paving slabs??

Having done a bit of landscaping recently my experience is to use the right tool. Hire a Stihl saw and use water suppression. I have cut with a 5 inch grinder and it's not easy, it's more dangerous/uncontrollable and puts lots of pressure on the tool. You can't use dust suppression either. My...

Thoughts on buying a new printer

https://www.urefilltoner.co.uk/test-lab-printer-reviews.html I followed this guys advice and bought a brother 3150cdw. I have refilled the starter carts twice with no drop in print quality. Good for documents etc. If I want photos printed I go to the supermarket with a USB stick I had a...

    Rat problem, dog poop

Not that I'm trying to justify your neighbours behaviour, maybe just add some balance to the thread. Your problem isn't the dog mess or their lack of tidiness. Its dead rats under your floor and presumably alive ones running all over the place. You could have the best neighbours in the world...

Where would you position Acro-Props in a replacement Bay Window scenario?

Why is it important? Are you looking for someone to draw arrows and say exactly here? My guess would be that you could put an acro anywhere (if required) as long as that position supports the structure adequately.

Concrete Slab for workshop base - Novice needs help

In my very limited experience having mixed about half a cube of concrete, I agree with tomfe that mixing that amount would take ages and be backbreaking work You can google concrete calculators for the amounts you need and either buy ballast (sand and aggregate premixed) or sand and agg...

Masonary Bodge Job – Advice Needed - hole too large!

Mortar is sand and cement. Cement on its own is no use as it binds the sand together. If you haven't used it before it could get messy and highlight the area. If it were me I would use an exterior grade silicone as suggested above. You can get it in brown. Fix the vent in place and fill the...

    Freshen up old kitchen units

I was doing the same thing and tried a vinyl wrap. I have some mouldings and it didn't really work well on the corners. Maybe worth a look though as you can get some pretty nice effects, not just gloss. I sprayed with tins of zinnser BIN then painted with a velour roller using johnstones...

Pouring Concrete Hearth For Wood Burner

Is my interpretation of this correct? If stove meets a) then this over rides c) regardless of where you install it? Thanks Graeme

Pouring Concrete Hearth For Wood Burner

I think it depends on the stove. Mine states in the manual it doesn't need to be placed on a constructional hearth and can therefore be placed on any non combustible material eg glass of a suitable size. Quote from manual: SUPER IMPOSED HEARTH In certain circumstances Building Regulations...

Marks on wall where clear glass kitchen splashback touches it ?

I once made some washers from clear bathroom silicone by flattening it between layers of cling film. Im sure you could fashion some in a similar manner. Just a thought Graeme Eta would that not let gunk get behind it over time though?

    Shelf fixing problem

Managed to persuade the missus to use an "off the shelf" shelf that mounts on a rail screwed to the wall. Stenstorp from ikea. I can therefore avoid the issue without a problem :) Thanks for the advice though as with help from here I know it's possible to takle anything drawing on others...

    Shelf fixing problem

Hi, I have to put up a shelf in the kitchen that the missus will no doubt load with jars etc. I imagine it will need to carry a reasonable weight. It will be fixed through tiles into a dense concrete block wall and was thinking blue or grey Rawls hammered through the tiles with decent screws...

    DIY kitchen fit with pics

I have seen "magnetic" paint before at a home exhibition. I think the plaster is similar in that it contains metal that can be attracted by a magnet. Metal won't stick to it, but magnets will. Nice job on the kitchen it looks awesome
