    Automatic bleed valves for radiators

Thanks for the replies. I will avoid the automatic bleed valve then! I drained the system fully yesterday 3 times (due to a leak!) - and I also flushed it through for a while. Today I have it full and running with a bottle of cleaner in. I'm going to leave the cleaner in for a couple of weeks...

    Automatic bleed valves for radiators

Thanks for the reply, any clues on working through a diagnosis? To try and identify the issue?

    Automatic bleed valves for radiators

I've just put the cleaner through the system, In another thread someone suggested watching the f&e tank to ensure that it wasn't overpumping into the f&e causing aeration. I've just kept an eye on it for 20 minutes and it doesn't appear to be at all. Could the air in the rads just be from...

    Automatic bleed valves for radiators

I've posted on here about having to change a radiator because it rusted through from the inside. I'm trying to ensure any corrosion doesn't continue. For the whole time we've lived at this house (9 years) none of the radiators have needed bleeding except for the bathroom radiator. This was the...

    Replacing a radiator

Thanks, makes me feel better about the PTFE tape! I'd done it so neatly the first time! I went over the end slightly this time to give a bit of a seal against the edge as well. House is lovely and warm now and no leaks so I'm happy!

    Replacing a radiator

Nope, definitely no O ring - they were the ones from toolstation - both identical both just a plain lump of metal. The inside had the hex shape to tighten it up with the allen key the outside was just smooth for 20mm, then thread for the rest. Obviously the smooth part had an internal thread -...

    Pipe cutter wheels

Wow - I got one of the 15mm automatic pipe cutters recommended above. How did I live without it before? So, so, so much easier to use! They're not cheap but seem to be worth it. Thanks for the recommendations!

Replacing radiator with heavier one on a partition wall.

Thanks gents, test fit went well today, the baton should hold it nicely. Very nearly used the mounting screws which came with the radiator, could job I realised half way in - if I had carried on they were so long that they would have gone right through into the bedroom behind!

    Replacing a radiator

Well that was a fun job :( Came to replace the radiator in my sons room and I re-routed the pipework for the new towel radiator in the bathroom. I was doing both together and ended up with lots of problems! The towel rad was pipework was fine, but the simple job of replacing a radiator wasn't...

Replacing radiator with heavier one on a partition wall.

I was going with the fact that the top would be fitted first and initially would hold the weight of the rad by itself, then attach the bottom and at that point the tiles etc would stop it moving inwards and the plasterboard plugs would stop it pulling out at the bottom. The bottom also has a...

Replacing radiator with heavier one on a partition wall.

Thanks for the reply, The children are fairly sensible so should be alright there. The towel radiator is 25Kg plus water, the original radiator is about 15Kg plus water, so there is a fair bit of extra weight plus it levers from higher up. For now I have chopped out the plaster board and...

Replacing radiator with heavier one on a partition wall.

It is paramount board, so doesn't have studs in it, just the honeycomb cardboard. I'm thinking of fitting some kind of baton to support the weight. The old rad was mounted using special fixings, but it was just a standard rad, this one is so much higher that I'm worried that the extra leverage...

Replacing radiator with heavier one on a partition wall.

I'm just doing our bathroom, I've got one wall left to tile - I've got to remove the radiator from this wall first. The current radiator is about 600mm x 600mm single. The new radiator is a towel radiator - which is 1500mm x 500mm. The wall it is going on is one of those rubbish partition...

    Fitting a mirror when tiling

Thanks, I contacted the supplier and they said it uses hooks to mount it but doesn't come with any. On the rear there are two holes which I had dismissed when looking at it as they didn't look adequate (then promptly forgot about!). These holes are basically a round hole with a piece of plastic...

    Fitting a mirror when tiling

I've purchased a matching mirror to go with the vanity unit I have bought. It is this one: https://victoriaplum.com/product/sienna-oak-410-mirror-with-lights-special-offer-ppack1507 I asked on here before about whether I should fit before tiling and tile around it, or tile first and then fit...

    Laminate without staggering

I need to put some laminate style bathroom flooring down. It is the tile effect stuff intended for bathrooms. It comes in 1285mm x 327mm 'planks'. The bathroom is only small and the area that needs the flooring is 1.2m x 1.7m. Whenever I have installed laminate before I have always ensure it...

    Replacing a radiator

Just been reading up on X400, looks good - will get some from screwfix. I'll put it in when I refill after replacing the rad and I'll leave it to run for a couple of weeks until I put the new rad in the bathroom - then I can drain it all out again and refill. What would be best as inhibitor...

    Replacing a radiator

Not sure if it is related at all but I'm also about to change the Y valve again, this will be the 3rd valve in the 8 years that we have lived here. They seem to seize up over the summer when we don't use the central heating.

    Sealing a new bath

Thanks, it is all level at the moment, but I figured it would be good to get some sealant on the horizontal surface to help bed the bath in on the frame it sits on. Hopefully get a bit further with it soon! Thanks for your reply.

    Replacing a radiator

Thanks, when I last removed a radiator for decorating the water inside was nice and clear. We had a new boiler fitted about 6 years ago and the fitter had to do a clean of the full system to fulfil the warranty requirements. He did it but at the time said it was a bit of a waste of money as the...
