    Query: Felt Roof Application wrong?

Hi all, Our roofer completed our felt roof last night, however we are unsure whether the application is going to be problematic. We have gone for a triple layer system which all is fine. However the issue we have is with the direction the felt has been laid, it should have gone with the...

    Advice Please: Parapet wall

Thanks for the above woody, three questions though. 1) Are you suggesting that we put the blockwork directly onto the roof deck? Or should we line it with a plate of some sort, and then cover it with DPC. 2) By frost-rated, would engineering bricks suffice? 3) Also, above the DPC level, I...

    Advice Please: Parapet wall

Thank you Gonch69, How about this option, this will be more solid and allows for us to do the following: 4) Traditional Double skin: Brick and Block Coated mild steel plate, 200m width across the length of parapet, bolted to the joist - and then brick on it. With DPM to cover steel.

    Advice Please: Parapet wall

In regards to the rafters certainly slot them into the blockwork, I think that's what we should have done. Yes, the wallplate is onto the blockwork I'm not too fond of the single skin either particularly given the length, but it would be the easiest... We have a flat skylight (1m x 2m) - our...

    Advice Please: Parapet wall

Hi guys, I've had trouble with builders as of late, and you guys have proved extremely helpful, and I would like some advice please. We want to build a parapet wall to complete the roof of this extension. The extension is around 4.5m x 4m. I have attached a drawing below, the blue line...

    A bit of advice please...

Thought I should provide an update on this for anyone in the future, we eventually went with taking down the blockwork and trying to tie back to blockwork. Building regs stipulated that we call them out once we have reached just below shoulder height on the rebuild. On inspection the inspector...

    A bit of advice please...

Yeah, I will certainly be going for a flat roof. Our neighbour has a pitched roof, but when a building reg initially inspected our foundation he stated that "That pitch roof is not good, unsure how it passed" and we were advised to go flat. I just wonder whether I now have to update drawings...

    A bit of advice please...

Thanks for all your help guys. I just wondered, we are having a flat felt roof constructed and installed by a roofer. We initially had drawings for a pitched roof, but the slope required is not adequate. Would you recommend getting this redrawn?

    A bit of advice please...

That's what I'm not quite getting, why can't it be rebuilt with the same insulation? The building regs inspector stated that so long as we meet the minimum 25mm air gap, it is fine. If the following steps are taken indeed it should work right?!: 1) Remove Blockwork 2) Remove Celotex insulation...

    A bit of advice please...

It's fully built now, but I'm thinking if we can remove the blockwork and rebuild as you suggest, I can't see it being an issue. Just ensure the insulation is pressed to inner blockwork and clip it back.

    A bit of advice please...

I'm the OP, we spec'd 100mm cavity with rockwool insulation. Until the building reg guy told us it had changed from 15 June 2022

    A bit of advice please...

Mine was originally supposed to be 100mm cavity, but we were advised to increase to 150mm due to regulation.

    A bit of advice please...

The issue we have is the original builder messed up and didn't inform us, we were working to a 100mm cavity with rockwool insulation, and then the building reg inspector told us (partially incorrectly) that the regs updated to 150mm cavity - with 100mm PIR Celotex insulation. However, we long...

    A bit of advice please...

As I predicted the builder has ignored my messages and didn't answer my call. What steps do I need to take before considering taking on someone else to re-do the work, whilst ensuring I can chase the builder in the future for my money. If anyone has a comprehensive link that would be great.

There's really no excuse, particularly for the side where both the blockwork and brickwork were taken down - I would have given the benefit of doubt for the side where only the blockwork was taken down.

    A bit of advice please...

I also thought this, but maybe because we are using PIR for it to be effective there has to be an air gap?!

    A bit of advice please...

It won't cost them anything to walk in all honesty, they were contracted to rectify the issues of builder 1 - We are using an independent roofer to complete the work - So it all boils down to morals, and failing that, we go down the legal route.

    A bit of advice please...

Hi guys, First time post although unfortunately, not a happy one. We are doing a rear one-storey extension. We've had continuous bad luck with builders who all just seem to be in it for the money. The first builder we had sort of absconded halfway through, got another builder in who rightly...
