    Hole in the floor

Perhaps, dont touch it. Its a mess and just so long as its compartmentalised then thats barely enough - but for you its well to stay away

    oursurveysaid

oursurveysaid, NH lime is the right stuff. Best practice and traditionally, the joist tails were seated on the DPC and the air bricks were set in the bay between the joist tails. The DPC was (& still is) supposed to be 150mm above ground level. If your air bricks are simply venting the front...

    Widening opening in Chimney Breast

Measuring from the D&D is useless - the face of the original fireplace, brick corner to brick corner is needed. Perhaps you can measure a comparison in the bedroom above - thats if the c/breast Keeps it shape? Have you considered stripping everything off to reveal the original c/breast? Its...

    Expansion joints and decoupling membranes

I assume that by "screed" you mean a semi-dry mix of sand and cement? By "only screed over the old wall" that you mean the screed is filling the gap between the old slab and the new slab above the remains of the old wall? I've asked a few questions about this wall and the join because thats...

    Expansion joints and decoupling membranes

So, your new slab butted up to the old slab just the inside of the old external wall? How did the new slab meet the old slab - was it just a straight pour or were any other arrangements made? Does the new slab have insulation around its edges? Are both slabs of the same depth - eg. 150mm?

    Widening opening in Chimney Breast

What you show looks to be potentially shaky - but then i'm not on site. My rough calculation using a 1090mmW Everhot 110 dont work out for you. I'd need the total width of the chimney breast to be accurate? Its difficult to tell from the pics if you still have the old lintel installed - i...

    Expansion joints and decoupling membranes

The new floor is solid - is the old floor solid or suspended? Was a wall knocked thro to open up for the new extension? Can you post a pic of the join in the two floors?

    Widening opening in Chimney Breast

Whats the total width of the chimney breast? How do you know that the chimney breast butts up to the back wall? If it does butt up, there still might be the occasional tie-in brick? Have you read the Related Threads below?

    NHL Render Below DPC?

Where's the DPC in your wall? It should be just under the air bricks? Snap a chalk line across to straighten up the render - cut the line with an angle grinder. Clean off or replace the badly cement mortar smudged bricks. Hack out the soggy pointing to 30mm to 40mm depth with an angle grinder...

    Inspection chamber problem

Thanks for your reply. Typically: Soil in the pipework world refers to a soil pipe carrying sewage from WC's. Waste refers to sink and bath water. Perhaps both soil & waste are combined in your grey pipe? Your m/h might have been carelessly altered at some time. It would be a straight forward...

    Inspection chamber problem

So, you have a waste pipe, and a soil pipe discharging onto concrete benching? Two inlets and one outlet? Or is there a third inlet in the top LH corner? Are you complaining that the concrete benching is too flat - not enough fall? Has your manhole been altered that you know of? It appears to...

Filled gaps in lacquered pine floor cracking and coming out in long strips - can this be fixed?

My wrong. Apologies. problem is then with such gaps that whatever filler is used and best blended it will, possibly over time, begin to fail and loosen because of the inevitable floor expansion and contraction. Contact a specialist floor laying suppliers for possibly more info on what they have?

    Are these walls load bearing?

Your first sentence is meaningless in terms of my quote. no? Your second sentence is just wrong.

    Sewer access / manhole cover.

The manhole opening below the cover is approx the diameter of the concrete ring. Its a pretty big manhole for a single residential back garden - possibly your sewer line runs deep or the sewer line is shared with neighbours? The metal cover will be simple to lift but heavy. Remove soil from...

    K Rend.

TDack, Thanks for the info. Whatever, leave the weeps alone. Given the standard of rendering, why not go on the flat roof and photo it and its flashing, and the the chute? The main roof down pipe appears to be discharging onto the flat roof, so there could be lots of water draining from up...
