Flexible filler for cracks under bay window

Hadn't considered lining paper. Might be a good shout in reality but the rest of the room is painted plaster so my wife isn't keen on the bay having a different texture and paper lines.

Flexible filler for cracks under bay window

I'm need to repair some cracks under a bay window. Unfortunately, it's a 1920's house, an upstairs bay and the plaster is attached to brickwork that has been built off the floorboards. There's always going to be some movement, but surprisingly little. The cracks are slightly more than hairline...

    Liverpool Ramming

I think they'll have to having set this precedent. If they don't, people will make assumptions in the vacuum of information, like the did at the southport stabbings. Unfortunately, the reality at the moment is most of the terrorism we hear about come from an Islamic source, so its not...

    Liverpool Ramming

Looks more like he lost control of the car to me in a panic. Why would he have stopped and only started moving again when people started hitting his car and opening the car door? Also sounded like he was sounding the horn. It would be pretty intimidating if you'd somehow found yourself having...

    Liverpool Ramming

Having seen some of the footage, it looks more like a driver that got their car into the wrong place, panicked and then tried to escape rather than a deliberate attempt to hurt as many people as possible using the car as a weapon.

How to restore this old doors?

I’d take the panels off and paint. They look like nice doors to me but probably never intended to be bare wood.

    Stairgate needs strength...

I'd go as deep as you can. The greater the bonding surface area and the greater the penetration of the verticals into the horizontals, the stronger the assembly will be.

    Stairgate needs strength...

Lots of different ways to do it. 1. Rout a slot full length down the top and bottom rails. insert and glue your spindles and then glue filler strips between the spindles. 2. Mark out and drill round holes all the way though the bottom rail that you then use as a drill jig for the top rail...

You need a better technique or a sharper fork :) short sharp stab goes through every time for me.

    Stairgate needs strength...

Recess and bond the verticals into pockets in the top and bottom rails. The bigger the contact area, the stronger the joint. Butt jointing like you've done is always going to be weak.

That is a bodge. Looks like they've used the wrong size soil pipe adaptor, the pan isn't screwed down with the correct fixings and it's not siliconed to the floor.

Neighbour getting smells from our extractor fan?

Exactly as a previous poster said, the best way to deal with this would be to have a vent pipe running up the side of the building to above eaves height, the idea being that the smells are vented high up away from windows so they disperse, the same principle as stench pipes. You don't want a...

What Type Of Hinges Do I Need?

These. You need inset hinges to get the door flush and the adjustable nature of kitchen cabinet type hinges make it a lot easier to get the door to sit right in the aperture. The blum ones are only ones i've used that have the accuracy for the door to close the same way every time. All the...

Buried shower arm doesn't line up when tight

No, you need a shedload of ptfe tape wrapped around the threads that will seal and allow you to leave the shower arm in the right orientation. Plumbers mate won't do it.

Unless you have insulation in the floor, you may as well burn pound notes and expect them to heat the floor.

Getting electric shocks in kitchen - immediately after walls have been plastered. (Only when contact made with fresh plaster)

The shocks should disappear, but the fault that is causing it will remain. I'd want to know what's causing it The last thing you want is a fire because of a damaged cable to a cable to fail and a load of disruptive work have to be done to find the fault once the kitchen and decoration is...

Barclays confirms trans women to be barred from using ladies’ toilets

Many women were upset that 'chest feeding' became a thing in the NHS. Many people full stop are unhappy about the word women being appropriated by transgenders. Its amazing how aggressive these so called transgender 'women' are towards real women. They only seem to care about transgender...
